29th February 1980Opal refused to keep her eyes off Sapphire when she slept, she stayed up all night ignoring the attempts of Sirius calling her back to bed.
"Opes, please Love, you haven't slept in days." he beckoned.
But Opal shook her head, her eyes burning as she struggled not to close them. "I can't let her get hurt."
"We have protection charms up. We have an Order member at our door, Amethyst isn't going to get in." he told her, stroking her hair.
"It's not enough," her voice strained.
"Opes, nothing is going to happen to Saph, look at me," he said.
She reluctantly turned her head up.
"You need to get some rest, please for my sake even. You can't protect Sapphire if you're sleep deprived."
She hated that he wasn't wrong.
"Amethyst wasn't always like this," she whispered. "She wouldn't have turned to the dark side, I just don't understand what happened."
"Voldemort is powerful. He has a way to make his ideal world sound like paradise-"
"But we weren't brought up hating muggles or muggleborns," she said, "We weren't like-" she hesitated.
"You weren't like my family?" Sirius asked, softly.
She looked at him, her eyes saddened. "I didn't mean-"
"You're right," he said, "I don't know what would have changed Amethyst's mind about things. Do you think she could have been under the imperius curse?"
Opal pondered. "I don't know. It didn't seem like it but how do you know if someone's under?"
He shrugged. "I've never seen someone under it." He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, pulling her in closer. "It's gonna be okay. We'll find the answer."
Opal was doubtful, but as Sirius hummed a soft lullaby making her fall asleep almost instantly.

8th March 1980
"Hey, Opes, what's this?" Peter called out, he was staying with her whilst Remus and Sirius were out on a mission, there was still no sign of Amethyst.
He walked out of her room with Sapphire's blanket and the Arabic copy of Secrets of the dark arts in his hands.
She took the blanket off of him and wrapped it around Sapphire.
"Oh that... it's um-" she said, eyeing it.
"I know a translation charm, you want me to translate it."
"You do?" she asked, hope filling her voice, she'd given up on finding someone to translate it.
He nodded but she was hesitant.
"What is it?" he asked.
"It's a spell, but my dad said that it was useless." she told him.
"I mean there's no harm in actually trying," Peter said, he took out his wand muttering words. A flicker of pink smoke surrounded the book, then a moment later the words were English. "Here you are." he said, handing it to her.
She stared down at it, everything she needed to see her parents again was in that book.
"Are you going to open it?" Peter asked, eagerly.
