Later that night.I was helping Mark set up everything in the backyard to paint the team banner.
The sun was down and the air was finally, becoming bearable to be outside in. We had a large table beneath the covered patio, so we lay plastic table cloths over the top of it and place down the brushes, water and paint.
I stand motionless staring down at the project. I couldn't get Nick cleared from my mind. I wondered how much I embarrassed myself saying and doing all the things from earlier today.
My phone pings and I look down at Nicks text. "Still want me to come?" He asks.
I check the time and smile in a totally ridiculous manner. It was just five minutes after eight.
"I'd love for you to come." I smirk, but my fingers were shaking. I really hoped he didn't take that inappropriately, but if he did.. I wouldn't mind.
"Send me your location." He texts back.
"Is Joey or Kayla showing up?" I question him.
"No, just me."
I look up at Mark for a moment. I was an adult, but this was still his home, so I knew it would only be respectful to ask him if having Nick over would be okay.
"Hey, Mark?" I nervously, clear my throat.
"What's up?" He looks at me as if I were wearing the nerves I was currently feeling.
"Is it alright if Nick comes over and helps paint?" I ask out right.
"Nick? Who's Nick?" He gives me a look of bewilderment.
"Mark." I stare at him, nearly breaking out into a smile. "Nick... Bosa?"
He lingers a moment. "Are you sure Joey would be okay with that?"
"Yeah.." I give him an odd look. "Why wouldn't he be?"
"I know you two are broken up, but you brought him to the school recently, and I can only assume that is who you have been seeing every Saturday night. I just want to make sure he's okay with you spending time with his brother."
I almost burst out into laughter. I quickly palm my forehead. "Oh, god. No, you thought I was dating Joey?"
"Well, I seen you with him on instagram. That is the whole reason I found out where you were.. working for the Niners and dating Joey Bosa."
"Oh, my god." I softly, laugh. "I was dating Nick, that's why I lost my job.. remember? That was all just a cover up."
"I had no idea it was Nick Bosa. That's why I kept my distance from you and Joey, but I never got the opportunity to speak to you about it."
"Joey and I are just friends, Mark." I pause a moment and look at him more seriously. "So, is it okay if Nick comes over?"
He fumbles around for a moment and pretends to straighten out the banner. He eventually looks back up at me. "Yeah, that's fine. I'm going to bed, though. You sure you guys got this under control?" He asks.
