Nick and I ended up not having sex that night. Instead, we talked until we both fell asleep.I wake up to him kissing the side of my cheek. "I'm going to go for a run, okay?" He says, softly.
"Okay." I reply, still half asleep and barely able to open my eyes.
"I'll be back in an hour." He adds, right before he closes the bedroom door.
I wake up sometime later and go down stairs realizing he still wasn't back, so I decide to make him some breakfast for when he returned.
That man was always eating and I thought this would be a sweet gesture.
I go down into the kitchen and search for the things I need to cook breakfast. Everything was fairly organized and easy to find, so it didn't take me long. Once I had the pans on the stove and my ingredients laid out I tell Alexa to play "my playlist." I wanted to hear what kind of music Nick listened to.
Kenny Rogers, The Gambler came on. I rolled my eyes, softly. Of course Nick would listen to this shit.
My mom was very white, and originally grew up in Indiana, so this music was nothing new to me. In fact, I knew this song word for word, unfortunately..
I start frying up some bacon and eggs while I'm singing along to the song while swaying my hips. Trying to make the best of it and vibing to the country groove I never really knew I had..
When I turn around to see Nick and Joey standing behind the kitchen island.. all wet in sweat and breathing heavily. Nick was smirking wildly at me.
"Oh, god." I quickly, tell Alexa to stop. "How long have you guys been here?" I question them with embarrassment.
"Long enough." Joey says, flatly. His eyes definitely, looked amused though.
"You know this song?" Nick fully smiles, now.
"Yeah." I smile back. "My mom use to play this all the time."
"My dad would play this all the time too. It's a good song, reminds us all of football." He replies, looking over at Joey.
"Oh, well.. I made some breakfast." I tell him, ignoring the fact he just said it was a really good song.
"Cool, I have to go to the bathroom really quick." Nick says back as he starts walking off.
I quickly, follow him. "—But." My voice stutters a bit. I knew the rules in place.. I wasn't aloud to be alone with Joey.
"It's okay, I said just not alone. You're not alone, I'm here. I'll only be gone for a minute." He reassured me.
I look back at Joey for a moment. "Okay." I nod.
I quickly go back to finish the eggs on the stovetop. It was awkwardly quite for a few seconds before Joey clears his throat and I turn around to look at him.
"So, you spent the night?" His lips quivered, trying not to smile.
"Yep." I shake my head and give him a look. I knew what was going through his corrupted mind, so I turn around to ignore him.
