Texas. After what seemed like the most excruciating three hours and eight minutes of my life, we finally land in Texas.
"Damn, Nick. That was the first time I've ever seen you stay awake on an entire flight. Good job, bud." Kittle slaps Nicks back as he's standing up from his seat.
We start to exit the plane and I hear Nick call my name. I turn around to look at him, but Shanahan was quick to get to me first.
"Liliana, come with me." He says, handing me my bag and ushering me into a black SUV.
"So, here's your hotel room key, and a food voucher for tonight." He says, pulling them out of his back pocket and handing them to me.
"Okay, thank you." I reply.
"How are you doing, by the way? I rarely get to talk to you." He says.
"I'm good, I think the job is going well."
"Yeah? These guys haven't drove you insane yet?" He asks, he gives me a half smile, before looking at his phone.
"Nope, they haven't given me too much trouble."
"That's good. Uh, I've noticed you and Jimmy are getting a little close?" He replies.
Oh my god, if he only knew how close Nick and I were getting.
"We're not really that close at all." I tell him.
"Yeah, well. I don't mind you being friends with the guys, okay?— but there's a point where you need to draw a line in the sand for some of them or they won't know any better." He says.
"I'm aware of the company policy."
"That's good."
As long as the plane ride was, I felt like this car ride was even longer. I was relieved when I seen us pulling into the hotel parking lot.
Later that night.
After eating dinner and putting on some pajamas I crawl into bed, it was 9pm. There wasn't ever much to do on game nights and I knew that just going to bed early would make time go by faster.
I get a text from Nick.
"Come to my room, 224."
"What? Are you crazy? You have a game tomorrow." I text back.
"I know, but I need to talk to you. Something is bothering me and I need to clear my head."
"Well, let's talk over the phone, then." I tell him.
"No, I need to see you face to face." He texted back.
I sit there staring down at my phone. He has definitely lost his damn mind, for sure now. I think to myself, this was risky and I don't know what could be so important to literally, jeopardize our secret.
"Fine, I'll come." I reply.
"Hurry, make sure you don't get caught." He texts.
