Summary:
Charlie was very aware that the cat distribution system was a real thing.
He just wasn't really ready for a cat right now. They were a big responsibility and Charlie was just getting used to being able to take care of himself without assistance. He wasn't even sure his flat allowed animals, he couldn't risk getting kicked out within months of finally living on his own.
But the cat sitting in Charlie's hand was making a massive case against that. The cat was only slightly bigger than his hand, clearly a newborn and judging by the lack of other cats around him, very much abandoned. Charlie had just finished his run, stumbling upon the newborn a few blocks from his flat. The little kitty's eyes weren't even all the way open and he was making a soft meowing sound.
Adorable, yes, but Charlie really had no idea what to even do with it.
Notes:For Tolgrim.
Hi! Surprise, this is for you and your wonderfulness. Thank you for always commenting on fics, being supportive of everyone and always having something wonderful to say. You deserve a million fics in your honor and I hope this one makes you smile. I may have asked Bea what you'd like and she helped me brainstorm and then yelled at me about camping, so there's that. But really, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the support and comments you provide this fandom!
Enjoy!

"Come on little one," Charlie grumbled. "I'm not very good at this sort of thing. What am I supposed to do with you? Do you drink milk? Ah, isn't that bad for cats?"
Charlie was on his knees on the grass, holding the kitty and looking around, hoping to find an actual adult to help him. But it was late, there weren't many people around and certainly no one Charlie felt comfortable approaching. "I guess I've got to figure this out on my own, huh?"
The cat didn't respond, because of course he wouldn't and Charlie carefully got to his feet. Cradling the cat in the nook of his arm, he took his mobile out, trying to decide who might be worth contacting. Elle and Tao lived too far away, he didn't have a car, and taking the cat on the train wasn't appealing. Isaac might have the answers for him, but Isaac was allergic to cats and Charlie wasn't going to make his life worse for Charlie's lack of cat-related knowledge.
Tori would just laugh at him.
Instead, he did the very wise and adult thing, googled "found kitty what should I do?" and the internet, in its helpful wisdom, informed him he should find a vet.
"Well duh," Charlie grumbled, starting to walk towards the street. "It's nearly 7, I don't know if there's a vet even open now."
He looked up vets in the area, finding one about a 10 minute walk from his current location, listed as being open until 7 pm. He had maybe 20 minutes to get there and hopefully, the vet, Dr. Nelson, wouldn't be too annoyed with the last minute appearance. With the cat safely secured in his arms, not doing much of anything but sleeping and occasionally giving a little stretch of his adorable paws, Charlie made his way to the vet's office.
