" I heard you left the conference in between, what's the matter" Frey catechized through the call. He must have been informed.
" Yeah I had to go. It's Eve, she got into an accident"
"What? An accident? How is she, is she hurt"
" Yup she broke her arm"
" Broke her arm? How did that happen"
"I'll tell you everything later I'm taking her home. We'll catch up later"
"Home in the sense your house!" He chaffed.
"Yes my house" I retorted with matching trenchant mock.
"Got it" I heard him chuckle." Okay I'll come to your house after I wrap up my work here"
"Sure, see you"
"Are you feeling better" I veer my attention to her.
"Yeah it's fine. I think the drugs started kicking" she poised a stoic face. Her lip twitch for a tad second. She changed the expression before it made it to her eyes but I, however caught it in glimpse. She's still in pain.
"Hello miss Eva" Brenda, the house help, greeted me when we entered the house followed by a shocked gasp.
"What happened to your hand? Does it hurt" her face fell in sympathetic solicitude. I think I'll have to get used to hear the same phrase on repeat for a little while more.
"I'm fine Brenda. It was just a small accident"my attempt to dwindle her ruffle with my charming smile seems to have no affect at all.
"What do you mean small? You've hurt your arm for God sake" Anthony helped me to get to our bedroom.
"Here sit. Your becoming a child putting yourself in danger all the time. Your lucky I'm not your mother" she continued her berate.
Anthony didn't say anything to Brenda when she haul me over the coals. Brenda is in her late thirties and she's been with Anthony as the house help since he moved into his own house. He respects her enough that she's almost like family more than just a maid. That's why he'd remain calm when she was roasting me if it was someone else in her place I can't imagine their future.
I looked at Anthony hoping he'd help me save from her lecture but he seems to enjoy it too much. Instead of saving me he said " yes Brenda please knock some sense into her" my eyes narrowed into thin slits. Darts of anger being shot in his direction which he didn't acknowledge at all.
After some crazy lecture and a mouthful of instructions Brenda left us to our much needed privacy.
"How your feeling my love" he's exhausted shoulders slumped and a forlorn emotion lingered under the layers of his calm smile.
"I'm fine. I promise please don't worry this much. I'll be okay and I'm sure having Brenda around I'll be running in no time" I tried to bring a smile on his worn-out face. His lip curved at one end but quickly faded.
He shifted closer and held my left hand in his hand. He draw it closer to his chest tapped it on his chest. He looked at me with painful eyes and an emotion I couldn't decipher properly. He dip his head down brushed his lips on my folded fingers. He stayed kissing my hand for longer than a minute. And my heart sank to witness how much hurt I caused to the man I love.
"I'm sorry" he said in low pitched tone looking deep in my eyes.
I searched for a reason why he feels sorry for something that's entirely out of his control.
"Why are you apologising" I squeezed his palm which is caressing mine in soft strokes.
"I..I should have been there I should have protected you but I..."
"No no Anthony what are you talking about? It's not your fault, not at all. It's me who went out of proportion I should have been careful and you weren't even there and there's no way you could have pretend something like this would happen. I should be the one who should be sorry" I ran my hand across his jaw. "I'm sorry for not thinking about how much it would hurt you if I get hurt. I'm sorry"
He trapped my hand in between his face and shoulder. "No I shou.."
"Shh stop" "it's not you. Okay."
He leaned further and kissed my forehead. The kiss exploded in my chest. Gave away the crease formed there and replaced with heavenly feel. This kiss felt more precious than the thousand passionate ones we'd shared before.
For the first time in my life I felt so special. I had never experienced how it feels to be the center of someone's universe. He's far from my reach if it wasn't for that particular project, It would be impossible for us to even to cross our paths. He's a billionaire, a only heir of a thriving, most successful empire.
Strong and kind human. A handsome man who can get whoever he wants. A charming gentleman who has a kilo meters long of girls waiting to earn a single glance from him. A heart throb bachelor. I'd feel so insecure whenever we go out together because of the beautiful gorgeous girls drooling over him. Where I was a broken damaged soul just existing, constantly hiding from the reality. A person who just want to reside inside a cozy comfort of her little apartment. Where he was born with a golden spoon and bought up living in the best comforts of the world.
I'd agree with his dad. I'd even hate the girl like me in his place because there's a chasm of differences between us. He was meant to have best and I'm nowhere near best. I'm imperfect, average and used. Where Anthony is the golden standard for any girl's dream boyfrien. I'm not even sure I deserve him.
