“Do you wanna talk about it” I asked leaning back on the passenger seat. Since the day we have started living together he never let me behind the wheel and honestly, I don’t have any objections either. I quite enjoy being the passenger princess. Lean back, relax and enjoy the view from window and I’m growing to love watching the world move past me with the assurance of his protection. It’s been a long time when I felt safe with someone or even being comfortable around someone. I don’t recall a time when I felt safe or blindly trust anyone without being on constant vigilante mode let alone take them drive me anywhere.
“About what” he replied without even glancing at me and I understood he doesn’t want to.
“Nothing.”
He took a deep sigh “I shouldn’t have reacted like that”
“Like what” I shrugged.
He glared at me and shook his head. “I could have been less harsh but I think I reflected my anger on her brother on her. It’s not fair and with whatever she told me she might be really unaware of Justin’s actions.”
“So, you trust her”
“I don’t know. She is under the shadow of him. She has to do more than few sentences to prove she is what she claims to be.”
“But I sensed some very awkward tension there. Is something bothering you about her”
“Frey” he blurted as if it is the first word come to his mind at the mention of her.
“What about him”
“He used to have a sense of feeling towards her. Infatuation or crush, can’t confidently name it but I knew he felt something for her. He was different around her, not too hard, cocky or violent. It’s like he was a different person when she was around. If my intuition was to trust then I don’t want his feelings cause more damage than Justin’s ill intentions. And I don’t exactly want Justin to get a sniff of it because if he did, God, it’s gonna be a blood bath. Although, I doubt Justin brought her for the exact reason”
“So, you are worried what he would say if you react in a certain way”
He pursed his lips. Shrugged. “We have had lots of unexpected turn of events in the past few years. Our entire career paths dramatically changed without us having any control on our own life and future. We handled it in whatever way we could but with Justin trying to torn us apart and Sarah getting involved, it’s complicated and impossible to trust anyone. Worst, if he still holds the same feelings for her, it will end ugly for all of us.”
I didn’t react to him. He didn’t say anything either. We fell silent for the longest moment resorting to all the possibilities to what happens if Sarah turns out to be a part of Justin’s manipulations or falls prey and succumbs to whatever game of his. Which struck me with the most obvious question.
“Why Justin is doing all this. You said he was your friend. What happened so wrong that he made all of you his enemies and willing to go so far to use his own sister as a prey.”
“That’s exactly what we have to find out.” He said more to himself.
“Do you suspect something” I curiously asked. If we could uncover the secret that made him develop such hatred.
“I don’t. But I’ll soon find out or he might reveal himself” there was a mischief dancing in his eyes.
“Why would he” I asked. He smiled “If Sarah confronts him, he might reveal why he’s doing all this at least in hopes of keeping her his side and if Sarah is truly innocent then she’ll come to us.” That mischief grew as he added “If you had observed she feels something for Frey as well and looking forward for his acceptance.”
