"You knew she was out there." She said no louder than a whisper.

My answering smile was enough of a confirmation and she turned to Sofia. Who was still in tears, of relief or penitence.

"She has to know or else I'm sure she'll project this whole incident as your character and would never know what you really are" A glance at Sofia and she had the good sense of keeping repentance. Eva stared at me with what I could only decipher as content and grateful.

I would have hurried and encase her in my arms if had known what was going to unfold in a span of minutes.

"This is your perfect chance to show them why you should be a CEO." A male voice drawled from the threshold and there was a part of me hated that voice. May be not the voice but the person it belonged to or its tone. Or both.

Eva's POV

Gods I hated every bit of this damn day. If only, only that damn Joe had done his work, if only I never had to leave my work early and if by any damned God somehow made me turn on heel to home, I would have never had to hear that damn conversation, never slip from my temper and Oh damn God, all this drama shouldn't have happened. If only that damn fucking Joe kept his ass to his fucking job.

"This is your perfect chance to show them why you should be a CEO." Someone drawled from the threshold and I did not like the tone of whoever that belonged to. A glance at Anthony and I understood he didn't either. And with the intensity of his glowering made me wondered if a death stare could literally kill someone I was sure enough that person standing there would have been good as dead by now. Then I turned to see a man clad in custom designed grey suit, there was not even a wrinkle or a slight fold on that suit. He's shoes glinting in the bright ceiling lights. There was arrogance radiating from that man, he's smirk was annoying as hell. He looked familiar, blur distant memory but I sure knew I had met him. I tried to scour my memory blocks to remember when and where then Anthony spoke. Growled if I have to be honest.

"Justin" a grunt followed by tightening of his jaw. There it was. Flashes of the time I met him and his wicked smirk slammed into wake at the mention of his name. I blinked and looked at him again. He only continued to smile.

"Who allowed you inside" and threw a sharp glance at the door as if he could see the security there, he was ready to fire him at the spot. Couldn't decide whether they are lucky for not being after him.

Then another girl entered trailing after him. she is beautiful and young, so young than any one of us in this room. Gracing an innocent smile but it vanished as she took in the room and everyone's glowering at Justin. Anthony's own glowering seemed to fade at her entrance more like surprise or shocking, I couldn't quite make of it.

"I wanted to meet my old friends since you are hell bent on avoiding me and every proposal I make." He gestured to the girl "I thought my little sister could help me on harnessing my efforts and get on your good graces". Justin's sister. Sarah Heath. Frey. It all struck at once and I looked at her again. Wanted to see her again.

"Again. Stealing is not a proposal and Sarah" he didn't continue and the smirk on Justin's face grew. Frey. Frey is not here. Certainly, Anthony didn't know how he would react to acknowledging her. Where he stood in that matter.

Justin focused again on me turning slightly. "I heard you were taking opinions on whether you should take up that position of CEO at Sunshine Interiors and I thought I would give mine too" how he gleamed that information I didn't know.

"Who said I was taking a public poll. I asked only my friends and family not strangers". I replied disinterested and plain distaste. It was Anthony's turn to smirk and Justin bristled. I noticed Sarah trying to hide her own smile in the back.

"Oh, So, you don't remember me. Not a nice habit of forgetting someone who helped you sweetheart" he drawled and I raised my brows for with what he addressed me and I was in no mood to be the kinder person today.

I raised my palm on his face folding it into a fist then pointing "One, I would remember someone who'd helped me when I really needed and I'm sure I'd had thanked you if you really did" I took a step toward him slow and confident and said on his face "if you call me sweetheart again" I didn't finish and notably glanced to Anthony and smiled. Surprisingly, found him smiling proudly and making no attempts to interrupt me. I held his stare long enough and tread past him to leave the room but halted at the door just to witness Anthony reaching Justin, slow as a cat, smirking like a cat, and stood face to face with Justin and said "I'll finish that sentence for her." A glance at me over Justin's shoulder "I'll bash your teeth down your throat" and made to walk out but not before intentionally dashing his shoulder.

Puffing out a heavy breath. I tried to shake off the stress by running my fingers through my hair. Blew out a breath once again. "That was impressive" Anthony spoke as a way of distraction. I rub my face and looked at him. Ran a good eye all over him. Collective and casual as if nothing happened. "You were a different person back there". He just chuckled "Justin has the ability to do that to people."

I shook my head "I don't want to deal with that. At all"

"Trust me love, none of us either" "But loved the way you held out against him. I would love to see this side of you more often. Threatening, confronting." He nudged me with his shoulder just enough to push me to side.

"Hahaha I don't know what happened to me back there"

We reached almost to the car when a sweet female voice called from behind. We halted and turned to find Sarah gracefully rushing towards us.

"I'm sorry for whatever happened in there" she said a little breathlessly and I found Anthony in what I could possibly agree is a bit of surprise but quickly said "You don't have to apologise for him".

"He could be a real jerk sometimes and pain in the ass" she said twisting to the building as if she could see him from here. I fought hard to conceal my laugh. But Anthony smiled a bit and said "That he is".

"How are you, Anthony" she casually asked as if her brother isn't trying to dig a chasm of chaos between them.

"Great. As long as your brother don't try to make an appearance in our lives so often." He made no efforts to hide the annoyance.

Neither she tried to hide the embarrassment but asked "And Frey."

Anthony observed her for a heartbeat and she let him, not flinching or concealing anything. I'd give her a point for that.

"Good" he said and made to turn before she again called.

"I need to talk to you" she stuttered

"What"

"What is going on ... with Justin and you and all of it"

I was genuinely surprised she'd ask that.

Anthony smiled more to himself but faced her "You tell me. You walk side by side with your brother and it seems he has been working so hard to squirm a war with us for the reasons I am unaware of."

She shook her head as if she wasn't aware of the same. "I have no idea what you are talking about. When I came back after graduation Justin asked me to help him in the business that he willingly took up said it would be a good experience for one day I might take part in our business in the future. As I hadn't decided what to do next yet so I agreed to help. I felt relieved when I encountered Frey and you at the conference to have presence of some known faces probably my friends but the way Frey reacted that day made me realize something is not right"

"You want me to believe you when you are working with your brother yet you claim you don't have knowledge about what he's been up to lately."

"It won't change the facts right. I don't know what he is up to and I'm not interested in whatever stupid drama he stirred."

"Good for you. I hope you are smart enough to take your own decisions and stay away from your brother's filthy games."

With that he got in the car and left her there.
