Ayanokoji once asked me something.

"If you want to win so badly, why not just get rid of everyone who will make it more challenging for you?"

I understood what he meant by that immediately.

"You see, isn't the challenge a part of the fun?"

"No, to me it's always been annoying."

I understood that, for a time I can tell I was the same way, but here's what I found out.

"I get that, I do. But those feelings are interchangeable, just like how you can feel nervous and excited at the same time. You can also feel annoyed and excited at the same time."

"So you are annoyed by the others in our class then?"

I sighed, leaning back in my seat.

"Yes. But that doesn't change the fact that I see them as challenges I'm meant to overcome."

"Challenges... for you?"

"Hm? Of course. For me specifically. It doesn't matter if someone else tries to fix them or take them on, it'll come back around to me anyways."

"And why is that?"

I shrugged.

"Because at the end of the day, it's my challenge. I'm trying to advance to A class while protecting everyone in class D, that's what I swore to do."

He nodded his head.

"And what if there comes a time where you are forced to cut off another person?"

I rose a brow, looking upwards.

I grinned, snapping a finger.

"Spontaneous evolution."

"You mean-"

"Yeah, I'll force everyone to compete amongst themselves, I'll create my own sets of exams, where the weakest will be cut off."

"But you said..."

"Of course I mean exactly what I said. Every single exam I hold will have different holes in it, every single exam will have special 'events', but at the end of the day everyone will get a chance to evolve. Even if I'm able to see everyone's potential, I simply don't have the time to bring every single person in the class up to their max potential, so I can't just cut people off based off their potential. Understand?"

"Yes, you're saying that you'll keep the people who will be useful going forward. Even if there's someone with the opportunity to become as strong as us in our class, if they're unable to help in the moment, or over the next two years, they're worthless."

"Correct."

He rolled his eyes.

"Of course I'm correct, we can practically read each other's minds."

No shit.

I'll kick you.

Oh please, as if you would.

He stood up, and I jumped up, putting my hands out in some fake karate pose.

"Away demon!"

"You!"

A tick mark appeared on his head as he tried getting to me.

I ended up breaking a table, but luckily it was one at the expense of the school, meaning I didn't have to reimburse Ayanokoji.

Hmph, not that I would.

I got kicked.

...

I kept my eyes on Hasebe and Miyake as they studied.
