I watched the hot air escape from my mouth into the cool air as I waited for the others.
It was cold out today.
I'd spent the few days after the Paper Shuffle exam with Horikita and Ayanokoji mostly, reconnecting with Kushida.
Kushida was managing to build a healthy relationship with those two, and that made me feel like I did a good job, especially when Kushida told me that if I'm not around to open up to, that she'll rant to Ayanokoji instead.
I'd asked why him, and she had told me that she could tell he didn't care either way.
"I've noticed it, whatever kind of past he has, it's still haunting him to this day, I'd been watching you a bit too closely before, and could see that he only ever truly relaxed when you were around. Out of everyone in the school, he seems like someone I can trust to lend an ear. Especially since he looks to he one of those you trust the most."
That was what she had responded to me with, to which I accepted.
Of course, Ayanokoji also swore never to so much as make a hint about Kushida's dual personality to anyone.
Moreover, the results of the exam have also come out.
Our class is now known as class C.
We beat Ryuen during the exam, and class A beat class B as well.
So the new standing are like this once they get updated at the start of the next month.
Class A is standing at 974 class points, class B at 653, followed by my class C at 447 points, and finally Ryuen's class D at 442 points.
It was only a five point gap, but to everyone in our class it made all the difference.
It was solid proof that we could win, that we could rise up on the rankings and surpass those that were above us.
I sighed as I continued looking around for the group.
I wasn't just looking for them though.
I walked forward, turning a corner into Keyaki mall, the main mall in this area we're confined to.
I turned around, waiting.
Eventually, someone else walked around the corner, and some blue hair was the first thing I noticed.
"You haven't gotten much better at spying on people."
My voice was a bit muffled since I had my coat pulled up over my mouth.
It was cold.
It's gotten to that point in December where almost everyone is wearing bigger socks, earmuffs and gloves after all, with thicker jackets and sweaters to boot.
"Ryuen figured you wouldn't mind if it was me."
"Then who's assigned to the group I'm looking for?"
"Komiya, most likely, I saw him earlier."
I sighed.
"Do you know where he went? I can't find the others."
She nodded.
"I saw the general direction, yeah."
She turned around, leading me around the mall.
"...You know, you're surprisingly passive lately." She pointed out.
"It's the weather, add on the fact that a plan I've been trying to make for six months had succeeded, and I'm just in a passive mood now. I guess you could call it a crash."
