Nagumo POV:
Fuck.
I don't know what to do.
It's clear to me from the way Shizukana is playing that he's caught on to the different cards, and has informed Horikita of it.
That must be what he meant when he was talking about the trick to cutting corners in studying, he was informing Horikita to closely study the corners of the cards
This game has come down straight to luck.
Normally, I wouldn't mind losing to Horikita, it just means I haven't found something to beat him at yet.
But it's not him I'm losing to.
I glanced to my right, at the young man whom I have a whole year of experience on, Shizukana.
He noticed my glance, a small smile falling on his face.
I was already growing pissed at the second the more I looked at him, I didn't want to lose to this guy, not at all.
"What's wrong senpai?"
He asked it in a sickeningly innocent way, the type that could make a weaker person's heart thump, but I know he meant it provocatively.
I know he's trying to get under my skin, but even so, it was working.
This brat that came seemingly out of nowhere, got Horikita's respect, and has so blatantly made a stand against me while directly threatening to ruin my plans at each step.
"I think you should focus on the game, Nagumo-senpai."
I bit back from letting out a response that would ruin my image, looking back down at the cards in my hand.
It was my turn.
The score was currently tied 6-6, and the hand I got this time is okay.
That being said, I still can navigate it in a way that I can bring the lead to Onoba to secure at least two tricks.
The problem is Horikita and Shizukana also see that, even if I do give the lead to Onoba, he's only guaranteed to get one more trick, before the lead undoubtedly goes back to Horikita due to the cards in his hand.
After that it's a roll of the dice, which doesn't look favourable to us.
Should I go for it then?
If I take a trick with this card instead of passing the lead over, things are thrown up in the air.
Because it's an illogical play.
If I play such a card, there's no telling what either Horikita or Shizukana would do.
It's entirely possible for us to get a reward for such a thing.
We're currently defenders.
If we win this hand then we'll be up to at least 8 points.
The advantage that would put us in would be amazing.
We need to win this hand.
I placed down my King of Clubs, starting the round where Shizukana made Diamonds trump.
It was my deal, but because of the card that came up and the state of everyone's hands nobody wanted to be the one to start things off.
So naturally, Shizukana did.
He rushes into things a lot, seeming to make things up as he goes.
I learned that this was not the case.
