tied together with a ring

"You packed your passport?" I asked Travis for the second time in the last hour as I pushed our suitcases against the wall by the front door. Travis sighed looking up from his phone.

"I did." He told me. "Don't worry about it babe, everything's packed and ready."

"Yeah but what if we forget something or something goes wrong and..." I started. Travis put his phone down and came over as I spoke, taking my face in his hands and kissing me. My words died on my lips at his embrace and my arms lifted to rest against his chest. "Okay." I whispered when he pulled back. "I'm calm."

"Good." Travis smiled. "I'll go get the bags into the car, why don't you go make sure everything's locked up?"

I nodded, smiling to myself as he stepped past me to get the bags. Moving through the house, I checked that everything was locked and closed and all the lights were off before filling up the cats food bowls and placing the bag where I told the cat sitter it'd be. After saying goodbye to the little furry babies, I went outside and pulled on my sneakers. I locked the door and put the key in my pocket before going down to the car where Travis was waiting for me.

On the way to the airport we dropped the house key in our cat sitter's mailbox and made it to the gate with half an hour to spare before boarding started. While we waited, I pulled out my phone and called my Mom. She answered after a few rings, sounding like she was outside by the faint crashing of waves in the background.

"Hi honey, how are you?"

"Great, I was just calling to let you know we're about to board the first flight." I said.

"Okay, call me when you land and we'll come and pick you up. What time tomorrow will you be here?" Mom asked.

"Around eight in the evening I think, depending on whether the flights are on time."

"Perfect, just let me know and we'll be there soon. The island's not very big so it won't take long."

Mom and I chatted for a little while before boarding started and I switched my phone to flight mode. We'd opted for first class because it was a public flight and it was a lot nicer than being squashed up to a stranger for so many hours. Tired from stressing about packing everything, I fell asleep and drifted off the whole flight.

When we landed in Rarotonga the next evening, Travis and I were both exhausted from travelling. We waited at the airport for only ten minutes after getting through security before a red rental car pulled up and my Mom got out.

"Hey darlings, how were the flights?" She asked as we brought our suitcases over and hefted them into the back.

"Long." I sighed, yawning. Travis closed the back of the car and opened the passenger door for me with a smile. "Thanks." I smiled back.

It didn't take very long to get to the place we'd rented for the time we were staying; one of three a frame villas on a hill that shared a pool overlooking the ocean. It was beautiful even at night, and I almost couldn't wait to see what it looked like during the day. We were staying in the last villa down the end, and the other two didn't have any cars parked up or any lights on so I assumed we were alone for now. Dad and Austin were watching TV in the living room when we came in with our bags and Dad got up when he heard us come in.

"Hi sweetheart, how are you?" He hugged me tightly. I hadn't seen my parents in a while so I was so happy to see them again. We'd spent last summer with Travis' family, so we'd set apart some time to all have some time together this year.

"We're great." I smiled. "You guys having fun here so far?"

"Oh absolutely." Austin said from his armchair. "Thank god you guys are here though, all these oldies want to do is walk and relax. I've finally got people to go do activities with."
