Taylor's POV
We kept talking for a while, but it just wasn't the same. Eventually, we went back to the table when the food arrived and I pushed mine around my plate, not really feeling like eating anymore. I kept replaying the kiss Joe had forced onto me, the way he seemed to have done it only for Travis' sake. He'd barely looked at me all night. He'd looked at the damn waitress more than me.
I got up while everyone was still eating, telling Brittany I was going to get another drink. Taking my phone and my card with me, I went up to the bar and waited for the bartender to finish up with someone else.
"What can I get for you?" He came over after a few minutes.
"Can you pay table tabs up here?" I asked.
"Sure can, what table are you on?"
"Uh, that one." I pointed to the long table full of NFL players and their families.
"Alright, what items off the tab were you wanting to pay for?" The bartender asked after bringing something up on his ipad on the other side of the bar.
"Oh, no, I want to pay all of it." I said. That got his attention, and he finally looked at me. Really looked at me. I saw the moment it clicked in his brain who I was. "And don't tell me the total. I don't want to know." I laughed. It wasn't like I couldn't afford it, but it made me feel a little more normal.
"Okay." He nodded. "The tab is just all the food, drinks are paid at the bar."
I nodded, so he put the payment through. I tapped my card against the machine and then shook my head when he asked if I wanted a receipt. Then I smiled before turning away from the bar. I went to go back to the table but then hesitated. I watched Brittany and Patrick from where I was standing, a pang shooting through my chest as she laughed at something he said and he kissed her cheek, putting an arm around her shoulders. He looked at her with so much love in his eyes. That's what a relationship was supposed to look like. God. Would I ever have that?
My phone started ringing and I glanced down, staring at it for a long moment before realizing I had to answer it. Turning it over, I frowned when I saw my security company calling me. They didn't often call. Answering, I held the phone to my ear and ducked down the hallway where the bathrooms were so it was quieter.
"Hello."
"Good evening Taylor, it's Mark." A familiar voice came through the phone. "I apologize for calling, but there's an unregistered vehicle at your home and I just wanted to make sure everything was okay."
"Oh, well I'm not even home right now." I frowned. "Are you sure it's not Joe's car? He probably just got home."
"It's definitely not a car we've seen before, this one is red." Mark told me.
"Umm, okay, well thank you for letting me know. I'll call Joe and ask if he knows anything about it. Thanks you." I quickly hung up, calling Joe's phone and waiting as it rang and rang and rang. It went to voicemail so I called again. Nothing.
With a sigh, I switched apps and logged onto my security one. Tapping on the front porch security camera, I peered at my screen to see a little red car parked where mine usually was. Joe's was right next to it. So he was home, and someone was there with him. Dread filled my stomach as I rewound the time, skipping back to see if I could catch a glimpse of whoever it was. I skipped too far, to when the car wasn't there, so I forwarded a little until I saw it pull up. Then I turned up the volume, holding my phone close to my face as I squinted down.
A short brunette in a little dress got out of the car, walking up the stairs of my house and tapping on the door. There was a long stretch of silence before it opened. I could just see the top of Joe's head at the angle of the camera and swallowed as he reached out for the girl.
