So the ski field I've used in this are from Turoa because I know the mountain and so yeah all the lift names and the trail names are from that to avoid confusion, this is set on Mount Ruapehu in NZ.
Taylor's POV
"Babe I'm nervous." I admitted to Travis as we drove up the mountain road, his fingers weaved through mine like they always were in the car. "I haven't gone skiing in years."
"Baby you'll be fine." Travis said, kissing the back of my hand. "You'll pick it up again easily, and I'm here to make sure you don't hurt yourself."
"Well that's encouraging." I mumbled, and he chuckled. I lifted my gaze out the front window, up through the trees at the snow clad mountain we were driving up. The road where we were was just beginning to show dustings of snow, and after a few minutes it was like we were driving through a winter wonderland.
I knew Travis was watching me as I leaned forwards, taking in the sight. I hadn't been anywhere with snow like this in a very long time, and I absolutely loved winter. This whole thing was incredible. This trip was my birthday present from the previous year, and Travis had scheduled it for August so that it would be winter here and we could go skiing. I mean, yeah lots of people recognized me wherever we went, but in the little corner of the globe we were in, it wasn't as much as usual and I really loved it.
The best part about it had been that Travis and I had walked through town together, no security, nothing at all, and we'd just been two normal people. I'd taken a photo with a little girl and signed something for her, but that had been it, and I was more than happy to do so. Being here in this tiny little mountain town, it felt freeing.
"It's not as busy as I thought." I said as we got up to the carpark and actually got a decent space, about two thirds back.
"Weekday." Travis explained as he turned off the car "Less people. Now you make sure you put on a jacket because if your pretty ass gets a cold, we can't come up here again."
"Okay." I giggled, reaching back and grabbing the ski jacket I'd bought.
Travis was right; it was cold when we stepped out of the car. I shivered, zipping up my jacket and tucking the lilac hood over my head. My braids peeked out at the front and Travis chuckled as he tugged on them playfully, calling me Polly pigtails. I blushed.
We got all of our things and Travis tried to carry everything for me, only letting me carry the boot bags while he had the skis, poles, and everything else. My protests got me nowhere, so eventually I gave in and let him do it. We walked up the carpark to the bottom of the ski field where there was a rental shop, the ski school, and a two storey cafe with a huge area out the front with tables and racks for the skis and snowboards. People milled everywhere, but it wasn't busy.
They were just opening the lifts so everyone was heading over and lining up to scan through the gates, chairs of colorfully clad people starting to make their way up, eager to be the first on the snow. I swallowed nervously. It wasn't like I hadn't done this before and I wasn't super clumsy, but it was a little intimidating.
"Hey." Travis said, and I looked over to see him leaning our skis against a rack. "Don't look so nervous baby. We're going to take this slow and steady. You'll be fine."
"Uh huh." I nodded, peeking up at the mountain again.
"You need anything before we go up? There's a bathroom inside." Travis offered, and I shook my head. "Okay, well sit down and I'll help you put your boots on."
"Travis." I giggled. "I can do it myse-"
"Baby sit down and let me help." Travis told me, and I blushed as I sat down on a nearby bench.
