As the plane settled in the sky and the seatbelt sign clicked off, I started clicking my fingernails restlessly against the arm of my seat. I had five and a half hours to kill before I arrived in New York, and there was no one else on the flight I could talk to. Everyone else was heading to other cities since the tour was finally over, and I was the only one going to New York. I hadn't been there in a long time and wanted to sort out a few things before I went to Kansas City where I'd stay with Travis until further notice.
God, Travis. The last time I'd seen him was the end of June where he'd come to see the concert in London before he had to be back at home. That had been five and a half months ago, which was far, far too long. He'd been so busy with the football season that there was no time for him to come and see me, and between all of the shows I had so much going on that I didn't have time to go to him either. If I had, we'd have all but a couple hours together before I would have had to get on a plane together. We'd made up for it through hours of phone calls every single night that we could, but it just wasn't the same. I missed him like absolute hell and couldn't wait for everything in New York to be over so I could see him again. I only had to be there a couple days, but it felt like forever.
After staring out the window for about twenty minutes, I reached over to my purse and extracted my phone, which I had switched to flight mode before I got on the plane. Connecting to the in-flight wifi, I scrolled through the few notifications that popped up, swiping away the unimportant ones. I replied to an email from Tree, rsvp'd yes to my invite to the Grammy's in February, and opened up my new Instagram, @tayloralison, to scroll through it for a while. After a LOT of persuading on my part, I'd finally convinced my social media manager to let me have an account of my own that I controlled. It was less serious than my main one, where I could connect more with the fans. I was under strict instructions not to accidentally reveal anything, but so far it had been great.
I scrolled through the posts I'd been tagged in, liking and commenting on a couple that pictured the last Eras Tour show. Still restless, I got bored after only a few minutes and closed the app, sighing to myself. I wanted to call Travis, but it was almost three in the morning in Kansas City, I didn't want to disturb him, and it's not like I was allowed to make calls on a plane. With a sigh, I threw my phone back into my purse and reached up to dim the lights.
I drifted in and out of sleep the whole flight, and eventually we landed in New York just before nine in the morning. I passed through security quickly and was escorted out with my bags to the car waiting for me. We got back to my apartment just over an hour later because of heavy morning traffic, and I thanked the driver before dragging my bags inside and locking the door behind me. The place was dark and cold from the months I'd spent away and I shivered, reaching to turn the heat on. It was days away from snowing in the city so it was chilly.
Dumping my bags onto my bed to unpack a little later, I wandered through the house, opening up curtains and windows to let some air in. Once I'd finished with that, I found my phone, took it off flight mode, and texted my cat sitter that she could drop Benji back around whenever she was free. She'd been looking after my cats whenever I was away for extended period of time and really loved taking care of them. Of course, now she only ever had to look after Benji since I'd lost Meredith and Olivia. Then I texted Travis.
Taylor: I just got to the apartment, flight was good, call me when you can.
Keeping my phone on me, I made a late breakfast and poured some coffee. It rang just as I was stacking my dishes in the dishwasher and I smiled, taking my still half full cup of coffee with me onto the couch and curling up in the corner of the cushions with it. Swiping the green button across the screen, I held my phone to my ear.
"Good morning handsome." I whispered.
"Hey beautiful." Travis sounded like he was smiling. "So it's all over huh? How do you feel?"'
