tw: mentions of depression and s.h
Taylor's POV
"No, not tonight." I politely declined the invitatino to go get drinks with everyone else from the meeting. "Travis is waiting for me. You guys have fun though."
"Oh I didn't know he was in town." Chloe smiled. "See you next week then."
I waved as they headed out, grabbing my purse and leaving the room. Smiling to myself, I skipped out to my car and quickly pulled out of the carpark. Travis had flown in a few hours ago and was waiting for me at my apartment, and I was glad that I could go home to his arms again. He hadn't been due until next week, but he'd texted me saying he was coming today with no explanation. I didn't mind; I was over the moon.
When I got home, I locked the door and hung up my keys, calling out for Travis. His shoes were by the door, but I didn't hear him reply. Frowning, I started walking down the hallway and then smiled when I saw Travis coming out of the living room.
"Hey, how..." I started to say, before Travis engulfed me in a tight hug, clutching me close. "Hey!" I laughed as he buried his face in my neck without a word. "Hey, what's going on?" I murmured, since Travis showed no sign of intending to let me go. "You okay baby?" I rubbed his back. "Did something happen?"
"I missed you." Travis mumbled, slipping his hands under my shirt to press his palms against my back.
"I missed you too." I smiled, still not convinced. He was a physical person, but this was another level. I didn't mind, not at all, but I was a little worried about him. "How was your flight?" I asked, rubbing his arms gently. Travis just made a small sound, not answering my question. "Okay." I laughed nervously. "Baby, you're scaring me a little."
"Just come sit with me." Travis murmured.
I nodded, still confused but willing as he walked with me down to the living room. We sat down on the couch and he immediately turned his face into my stomach, wrapping his arms around me. I blinked in surprise, resting a hand on the back of his head, stroking gently. Maybe he wasn't ready to tell me whatever had happened yet, so I stopped asking and just rubbed his hair gently. He'd talk when he was ready.
But he didn't. Half an hour passed as Travis stayed curled up with his face buried in my shirt, not moving. I got a little worried, moving slowly and texting Donna to ask if anything had happened, but she texted back to say she didn't think so. Frowning, I put my phone down and looked down at my boyfriend.
"Hey." I said sweetly. "Baby, can you look at me?" Travis didn't move for a second, but then he lifted his head just enough to meet my gaze. "What's going on?" I whispered, taking his face in my hands. "I'm worried about you."
"Nothing." Travis mumbled.
"I don't believe that." I said gently. "Please let me in baby, don't hide. Talk to me." Travis didn't say anything as I stared at him so I sighed. "Okay, take your time." I kissed his forehead. "But I need to get up to make dinner, is that okay?"
Travis nodded, letting me go. He followed me as I got up, wrapping his arms around me from behind as I started cooking. Guessing he'd just had a scare and wanted to make sure he had me in his arms, I did my best not to move so he could just hold me. Sometimes things happened and we clung to each other, so I knew how he felt.
Once I finished dinner, Travis barely ate anything even though I tried to convince him. I gave in after a while, quickly putting the dishes away. Travis tugged me back to the couch and buried his face in my neck, wrapping his arms tightly around me without a word. I rubbed his back as we sat there, wishing there was some way I could figure out what was going on. He seemed distraught.
