Y/N's POV
I never thought a simple trip to the mall with Colby would turn into the most terrifying experience of my life. We were strolling through the nearly empty mall, hand in hand, enjoying each other's company when suddenly, a gunshot rang out.
"Was that a gunshot?" I asked frantically as Colby nodded, his head darting around in various directions. Panic ensued as people started running in every direction, screaming and crying.
Colby immediately grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the nearest shop. "Stay close to me Y/N, don't let go of my hand!" Colby said, as we ran down the pathways in the mall.
Another gunshot echoed through the mall, and I felt a sharp pain in my side, but the adrenaline pumping through my veins kept me running. I don't even think Colby knows I've been shot, I hope it's not bad. We joined the swarm of people seeking shelter, and Colby and I ducked into one of the shops, hiding behind the counter.
I put my hand to my side and felt the warm stickiness of blood. Fear gripped me as I realized the amount of pain I'm now in due to the adrenaline wearing off. I tugged on Colby's sleeve, my voice trembling. "Shhh... Y/-" he stopped when he saw my blood-coated hand. "C-Colbs" I whispered, tears welling up in my eyes.
His expression turned to one of pure terror. "Oh god, Y/N, hold on for me," he said, his voice tight with panic. He swiftly took off his hoodie and pressed it against my wound, applying pressure to try and stem the bleeding. The pain was excruciating, and I let out a whimper as tears streamed down my face.
"You're gonna be okay baby girl, just keep your eyes open, okay?" He reassured me, as I nodded. The pain was awful, causing me to let out whimpers and winces of pain, which echoed throughout the silent shop.
Outside, we could hear the wail of sirens, signaling the arrival of the police. Colby kept talking to me, trying to keep me awake and focused. "You're gonna be okay, baby girl, just hang in there. Help is on the way," he whispered, his voice shaking with emotion.
Finally, we heard the police announce that the shooter had been apprehended, and it was safe for everyone to come out. "Come on, lets get you to an ambulance." Colby gently lifted me into his arms and carried me to the nearest ambulance, where paramedics rushed me to the hospital, with Colby never leaving my side.
"Colbs, please call Sam." I whispered to him, as he nodded. Sam was my brother, Colby's best friend, he needed to know that we would be okay, as this would be all over the news.
I was wheeled into surgery, and Colby paced nervously in the waiting room, clutching his phone. He called Sam and filled him in on what had happened.
Colby's POV
That should've been me. Why did it have to be her? She'll be okay though I know she will.
I took a seat in the waiting room with my head in my hands, then I remembered that I needed to call Sam. Surely enough he picked up after 2 rings.
"Colby, there was a shooting at the mall you and Y/N are at, are you okay?" Sam asked nervously, as I sighed.
"Sam, you need to get down here," I started, hearing Sam get his shoes on. "I'm on my way, what happened to Y/N? Can I speak to her?" Sam asked. "She's in surgery Sam. She...She was shot, but the doctors said that it should be an easy fix." I replied.
"Oh my god, I'll be there in 10 minutes, I'll being some food for you guys." He said. "Alright, thanks man, see you in a minute." I replied as I then hung up the phone.
Sam rushed to the hospital, his face pale and worried, as he joined me in anxiously awaiting news of my condition.
"Mr Brock?" The surgeon asked, as me and Sam stood up. "Yeah, that's me. Is she gonna be okay?" I questioned, as the surgeon nodded. "The bullet didn't go near any significant arteries or veins, so we managed to get the bullet out and stitch her up. She'll need to rest for around 1 to 2 weeks, and bandages need to be changed every night or morning." She finalised, as me and Sam let out a sigh of relief.
The surgeon said that we were allowed to sit with her, and be there when she wakes up, so me and Sam took a seat next to her, as I grabbed a hold of her cold hand.
It must of been around another 2 hours, before her eyes slowly opened.
"Hey baby girl." I said as Sam smiled at her.
Y/N's POV
When I finally woke up after surgery, Sam and Colby were by my side, their faces filled with relief.
"Hey baby girl." Colby whispered, as Sam smiled at me. The doctor came in to explain what occured in surgery, and how to look after myself. After he left, Sam and Colby took turns sitting with me, holding my hand, and keeping me company as I recovered. Two days later, I was discharged from the hospital, weak but grateful to be alive.
Colby and Sam took turns taking care of me at home, making sure I was comfortable and well-cared for. Colby had to help me change my bandages every night, which was painful, but being shot was way worse. They showed me love and attention, making sure I knew how much they cared for me and how thankful they were that I had pulled through.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Colby became even more protective of me, never wanting to let me out of his sight. Our bond had been tested by the traumatic events at the mall, and we knew that we were lucky to be alive.
We sat together on the couch, wrapped in each other's arms, and I slowly drifted of to sleep, with Colby running his fingers over my healing stitches and scars.
