So I tried this whole "my characters as magical girls" thing, and who else to use as my trial run but everyone's favorite ice princess? :D
Speaking of, I tried to incorporate a bunch of "ice princess" elements into her design, such as the crown, cape, and ruffles on the top of her dress—though trust me, you wouldn't believe how much trial and error came before the final outfit design. I must've went through at least five different sleeve styles, not to mention the debate of whether or not to have her skirt be pleated—the panel skirt was an impulse decision, but I think it adds a nice touch. In the end, I wanted it to look very pretty and elegant, with just the right amount of hints of a proficient swordswoman.
I'll be honest, I was winging it- this was kind of a trial sketch so I guess that was going to be a given, though it was still kind of surprising how hard it was for me to get the vague idea in my head onto the page. Well, I hope the final product is enjoyable anyways!
The pose, crown, and boots were all inspired by Cure Beauty from smile precure, since I discovered that they're actually pretty similar as characters and even both have ice-related fighting styles. I'll admit I also used her for help with the bangs and ruffles on the front since I only have so much energy, but other than that the design came from my own head :3
And of course being me I had to add lots of sparkles
I'd imagine she'd still fight with her sword, as well as using her fan to accent her attacks, because I think that would be really cool. Perhaps she's actually well suited to be a magical girl and just doesn't know it? Who knows! :D
I'm still not entirely sure if I'll end up making this a full blown series, though I think it could be a fun thing to do when I've been plagued by art block!
