Two drawing series updates in one day?? Why, who am I?
I present to you, portrayed by my boy Ren: the leading man himself, the wise Greek hero, Odysseus!
Unlike the last one, I had no trouble at all assigning this character to him. They're both intelligent, crafty, and naturally curious, and they both suffer needlessly at the hands of their writers. I will say that I'm definitely leaning toward "Epic the Musical" Odysseus—a strong, yet merciful man who must accept that sometimes, to save the greater good, one must be ruthless. After all, canon Odysseus doomed himself and his crew cause he just couldn't bear the idea of no one knowing that it was he, King of Ithaca, who blinded the cyclops. Ren, on the other hand, is a lot more modest and quiet XD
But anyways, I thought that Jorge's interpretation fit perfectly with Ren's story of being a soft-hearted boy who liked flowers and science, that's "forced" into being a demon slayer and eventually adopting a more serious demeanor. Though, of course, he'd always prefer to play the distant support role of the group medic, he too eventually learns to embrace ruthlessness as a necessity~
And now that you know my story reasons, it's time for me to detail the art process! :D
HOLY LORDY LORD IT WAS AN E N D E A V O R
A THREE HOUR LONG ENDEAVOR
so I, the intelligent hooman that I am, thought "huh, drawing Yumie as Tiresias was a breeze, I totally have time to do the next drawing in the series and it'll be just as easy since I know what I want!" Now I, the newly humbled hooman that I am, quickly found this to be a total lie.
Where shall I begin~
Well first of all, Greek armor is very detailed—even this is a more simplified version compared to the references I used. I kept going back and forth on whether or not to give him the cape, but seeing that a lot of other people depicted Odysseus wearing one, I followed suit.
Then there was the debacle that is this boy's hair, which yes I know is a pain in the butt to draw. I commend everyone here who's ever tried to draw it. Also, I still can't draw muscles on dudes, but I tried my best XD
Finally, there was drawing his face and making sure it didn't look like it was in a completely different direction than his head and body, as well as getting the expression right.
Still, I pushed through the many urges I got to rage quit, and I came out with this final product. I guess it's fitting that I struggled for so long since Odysseus's perilous journey home took ten years, or at least that's what I'm telling myself XD
at least it earned the approval and praise of my sister, and at least I don't have to draw real Odysseus XD
