A Moment Of Respite

Fear was a concept that Mara Sov, Queen of the Reef would've scoffed at in her youth.

She was the unflappable God Queen of the Awoken, she didn't get scared.

But, there were moments in her long life that she had experienced fear, where she had been afraid, worried, anxious for the upcoming conflict.

Drop dead terrified, even...

Fear and heartbreak when Sjur had died...

When she had lost her brother...

Watching, as the person who she loved closed herself off for an entire year straight.

But the Awoken woman had never, ever been terrified before. When all she could feel, all she could sense was panic and horror crawl up her spine, never before had she experienced the kind of dread that made her insides twists with a heart-wrenching sensation of helplessness.

That was, until now...

Hearing her fiancée whimper her name, pain and tears in her voice made Mara unbelievably petrified...

"Hold on my love, I'm bringing you up!" She called out though the comm channel but she received no response except for another pitiful moan of pain from the other end of the line making her grit her teeth and narrow her eyes, pushing the HELM to its full speed to reach her lover in time.

Just as she was arriving on site, she saw a small figure stumble out of the pyramidal structure and watched as her fiancée, usually so strong and powerful trip over her own feet and land face first on the ground while running away, she couldn't help the fear that clawed at her chest.

"Activate the Transmat!" She called out to the other occupants in the HELM who were stationed at the other consoles.

She didn't care if she was forceful or rude at the moment, all she could think about was the prone form of the woman she loved being surrounded by Taken.

She couldn't lose her...

She quickly left her station at the command console and ran over towards the transmat area, where her girlfriend would be pulled up to and waited for her to arrive.

It felt like hours when in reality it was mere seconds, but as soon as her fiancée appeared before her very eyes, the Titan crumbled to the ground and wasn't moving.

"Guardian!!" She exclaimed fearfully, eyes widened in shock at seeing her lover in such a state. She instantly dropped to her knees and wrapped her arms around the young woman's shoulders to raise her up until she was safely cradled in her arms.

While reorienting her grip though, one of her hands came to rest on the Titan's side which brought out a hiss from the woman and made her moan in pain a moment later when Mara's hand stayed there, instantly able to feel the blood seeping into her palm.

Her fiancée's blood...

"I know, I know my love. I've got you, I've got you." The monarch murmured soothingly under her breath towards the Guardian, gently rocking her back and forth but as the Young Wolf's head came to rest on her shoulder, recognizing she was finally safe in Mara's arms the Queen's worry only skyrocketed.

"My Queen?" Sedia, one of her Techeun's walked up to her and bowed slightly, "What shall you have us do?"

Mara bit her lip before responding a moment later, "Have them turn the HELM around and go back for the Vanguard and my brother. I need help getting her to the onboard cabin." She said, an urgency to her voice which made Sedia move quickly, informing the others of the Queen's orders before coming back with two other Techeuns, Shuro Chi and Kalli to help Mara herself.
