Everyone, no matter who you are, whether you're a Cabal, Eliksni, Awoken or Human has longed to find their purpose in life.
The one thing that calls out to them, that they were put in this universe to do.
Some find it, others spend years looking for one, for a cause they can call their own.
But no matter what, at the end of the road we all end up right where we need to be, right where the universe wants...needs us to be.
Some, might call that fate.
Others...Destiny.
No matter what you call it, there's no denying that right now the universe is crying out for help, the Traveler is calling out for help, in need of its guardians to save it from the crushing grasp the Witness has around it.
It wants to enact its Final Shape, what it deems as perfection, twisted and broken as it sees fit.
But Humanity wouldn't allow that to come to fruition, not without one hell of a fight first.
No one has ever had the courage, the bravery to stand up to The Wintess before, not until humanity.
They've been devoted to this cause for centuries, protectors of their people, Guardians of the innocent and at every step of the way they've pushed back evil forces from their home.
The Witness will fall, just like all the others before it that thought they could take advantage of humanity.
No matter the sacrifices they'd need to take...
Today though, everyone could feel the presence of the Witness, they could feel it's power burdening their very minds.
The air itself carried a weight to it that wasn't usually there and no matter where you stood, weather it was in the Last City, or the far reaches of Sol on Neptune everyone could feel the cold gaze of a false god glaring down at them.
Mara Sov herself could feel the pressure pushing down on her from all angles at her place standing on the Bridge of the HELM...
"When I first encountered the Witness, I heard it proclaim to me, 'We are the first knife.'"
The Queen's words were as thin as her hopes as she stared blankly, expression hollow under the HELM's emergency lighting. She was hunched over the command console watching an ascending red line on a graph.
Something about the line's inevitable upward climb triggered her memory though.
They had to follow the Witness into the Traveler, and soon...
"It was as if that title held power. Meaning." Mara continued on with her story as the line ticked up again. She leaned away from the console and turned in place to look at Ikora, who was staring intently out the front window at the portal, etched into the side of the Traveler.
Mara didn't need the woman to say anything to know that she felt the same uptick in energy coming from it, the portal. Resonating with both light and dark, but there was something wrong with the power, something...corrupted.
Ikora nodded her head, not even turning away from where her eyes were locked on the Traveler but she was watching Mara's reflection all the same. "The apocryphal texts we dug up on the moon, the ones Eris translated, mentioned the knife as a concept." She said.
Mara hummed as she finally moved away from the console she was hunched over and came to stand right beside Ikora. "And even if we consider that unveiled text as dogmatic propaganda, there may be truth behind the allegory," She agreed, remembering the texts the Warlock was talking about and the translations Eris made of them. "The knife becomes the metaphor of a concept. A power. A knife that winnows, cutting things into a defined shape."
