Part 46: Back to Business

The next morning, the tension between Darsh and Kanishka was palpable as they sat at the breakfast table. The air was thick with unspoken words, and the memories of their time in Italy still lingered heavily.

Kanishka cleared her throat, breaking the silence. "Darsh, I need to get back to work. BEM needs me. I've been away for too long."

Darsh frowned, setting down his coffee cup. "I know you're the CEO, Kanishka, but I'm not comfortable with you going back just yet. Especially with Ayan still lurking around."

Kanishka sighed, meeting his gaze. "Darsh, I can't just stay here forever. My company needs me. My employees need me. This is my responsibility."

He ran a hand through his hair, clearly conflicted. "I understand that. But after everything that happened, I'm worried about your safety. Ayan is still a threat."

"I appreciate your concern," she said softly. "But I can't let fear dictate my life. I have to face this head-on."

Darsh leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. "So, what are you suggesting?"

"I need to go back to BEM. It's not just about the company; it's about me, too. I need to reclaim my life and my role there," she explained.

He studied her for a moment, his expression unreadable. "Alright. If this is what you truly want, I'll support you. But I'm setting some ground rules."

Kanishka raised an eyebrow. "Ground rules?"

"Yes," Darsh said firmly. "First, I'll arrange for additional security at your office. I want to make sure you're protected at all times."

"That's reasonable," she conceded.

"Second, you'll check in with me regularly. I need to know you're safe," he continued.

She nodded. "Fine."

"And lastly," he added, his voice softening, "if anything feels off or you feel threatened in any way, you come straight back home. No arguments."

Kanishka smiled, appreciating his concern. "Deal."

Darsh reached across the table, taking her hand in his. "I just want you to be safe, Kanishka."

"I know," she said, squeezing his hand. "And I appreciate it. But I also need to do this for myself."

He nodded, letting out a sigh. "Okay. When do you plan to start?"

"Tomorrow," she replied. "I need to catch up on everything and get back into the swing of things."

Darsh's expression hardened slightly, but he didn't argue. "Alright. I'll make the necessary arrangements for security."

The next morning, Kanishka was up early, getting ready for her first day back at BEM. She dressed in a sharp, tailored suit, her confidence slowly returning as she looked at herself in the mirror. This was her domain, and she was ready to take it back.

Darsh watched her from the doorway, a mixture of pride and concern in his eyes. "You look amazing," he said, his voice filled with admiration.

"Thank you," she replied, giving him a small smile.

He walked over, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. "Remember our deal. Stay safe and keep in touch."

"I will," she promised, feeling a surge of affection for him despite their complicated relationship.

Darsh drove her to the office, the atmosphere between them slightly tense but filled with a mutual understanding. As they pulled up to the BEM building, Kanishka felt a rush of emotions. This was her place, her sanctuary, and she was ready to reclaim it.

Darsh turned to her, his expression serious. "I'll be waiting for your call. Don't forget."

"I won't," she assured him, leaning over to give him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thank you, Darsh."

He watched her step out of the car, his heart heavy with worry but also a sense of pride. As she walked into the building, head held high, he couldn't help but admire her strength and determination.

Kanishka's return to BEM was met with mixed reactions. Her employees were surprised but pleased to see her, and there was a palpable buzz of excitement in the air. She spent the day catching up on work, meeting with her team, and addressing the issues that had piled up in her absence.

Throughout the day, she received several texts from Darsh, checking in on her. Each time, she replied with a quick update, reassuring him that she was fine. Despite her initial irritation, she found herself appreciating his concern.

As the day came to a close, Kanishka felt a sense of accomplishment. She had taken the first step towards reclaiming her life, and it felt good. She gathered her things and headed to the elevator, her mind already on the work she had to tackle the next day.

When she stepped outside, she was greeted by the sight of Darsh waiting for her. He leaned against the car, his eyes lighting up when he saw her.

"How was your first day back?" he asked as she approached.

"Busy, but good," she replied, smiling.

"I'm glad to hear that," he said, opening the car door for her. "Ready to go home?"

She nodded, feeling a sense of contentment. "Yes, let's go home."

As they drove back, Kanishka couldn't help but feel a strange sense of peace. Despite the challenges they had faced and the uncertainty of their future, there was something comforting about knowing that Darsh was there for her. It wasn't perfect, but it was a start.

And for now, that was enough.
