Part 49:

After enjoying a leisurely lunch together, Darsh decided to drive Kanishka back to his office. As they settled into the car, the atmosphere was relaxed, filled with the pleasant afterglow of their meal. Darsh, feeling emboldened by their closeness, gently leaned towards Kanishka, intending to kiss her on the lips.

However, just as his lips were about to touch hers, Kanishka hesitated. She instinctively pulled back, creating a sudden distance between them. Darsh, surprised by her reaction, withdrew slightly, his expression shifting from anticipation to confusion.

"Why do you always pull away?" Darsh asked, his tone tinged with frustration. "Why do you keep making excuses whenever we get close?"

Kanishka remained silent, her mind swirling with conflicting emotions. She didn't know how to articulate her feelings. She felt torn between her growing fondness for Darsh and her lingering doubts about their relationship. The weight of his question hung in the air, making the atmosphere in the car palpably tense.

Darsh sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "Kanishka, I need to understand," he urged gently, his voice softer now, tinged with concern. "I feel like we're so close, but then you pull back. Are you unsure about us?"

Kanishka looked out of the window, avoiding his gaze. She wrestled with her inner turmoil, searching for the right words. Finally, she turned to face him, her eyes reflecting her uncertainty.

"It's not that I'm unsure about us," Kanishka began slowly, her voice hesitant yet determined. "I care about you, Darsh. But sometimes... I feel like things are moving too fast, and I need time to process everything."

Darsh nodded, understanding flickering in his eyes. He reached out to gently touch her hand, a silent reassurance that he was there for her, no matter what.

"I'm sorry if I came on too strong," Darsh apologized sincerely. "I just want you to know that I'm here whenever you're ready."

Kanishka nodded gratefully, feeling a mix of relief and appreciation for his understanding. She realized that Darsh truly cared about her feelings and wasn't just focused on his own desires.

The rest of the car ride passed in a contemplative silence, both of them lost in their thoughts. They arrived at Darsh's office building, and as Kanishka handed him the lunch box, she couldn't help but smile softly at him.

"Thank you for lunch," Darsh said warmly, his eyes meeting hers with a gentle sincerity.

"You're welcome," Kanishka replied softly, feeling a sense of warmth and connection with Darsh that eased her earlier unease.

They parted ways with a lingering glance, each of them carrying their own thoughts and emotions from the encounter.
