Part 47: An Evening Out

After a long day at work, Kanishka felt the familiar exhaustion of a full schedule. As Darsh drove her home, she leaned back in her seat, eyes closed, replaying the day's events in her mind. It had been a productive day, but she was undeniably tired.

When they arrived home, Darsh glanced at her and smiled. "How about we go out for dinner tonight? There's this new restaurant I've been wanting to try."

Kanishka opened her eyes, surprised by the suggestion. "Darsh, I'm really tired. Can't we just order in?"

He shook his head, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Come on, Kanishka. You've been cooped up all day. A nice dinner out will be good for you. Besides, it's been a while since we had a proper date night."

She sighed, knowing he wouldn't take no for an answer. "Alright, fine. But nothing too fancy. I'm not in the mood for dressing up."

Darsh grinned, satisfied. "Deal. We'll keep it casual."

They both changed into more comfortable clothes, with Kanishka opting for a simple yet elegant dress, and Darsh in a smart casual outfit. As they headed to the restaurant, Kanishka felt a bit more relaxed. The idea of stepping out and enjoying a meal without worrying about work was appealing.

The restaurant was a cozy, modern bistro with a warm ambiance. They were shown to a corner table with a view of the city lights. Darsh ordered a bottle of wine, and they settled into a comfortable rhythm of conversation.

As the evening progressed, Darsh couldn't help but flirt with her. "You know, Kanishka, you look stunning tonight. I think you get more beautiful every day."

She rolled her eyes playfully, feeling the weariness of the day starting to lift. "Darsh, I'm tired. Save the flattery for when I'm more awake to appreciate it."

He chuckled, pouring her a glass of wine. "Just stating the truth. I can't help it if my wife is the most beautiful woman in the room."

Despite herself, Kanishka smiled, taking a sip of the wine. "You're impossible."

"And you love it," he replied, winking at her.

The food arrived, and they enjoyed a delicious meal, sharing dishes and laughing over small talk. Darsh continued to tease her, but Kanishka found herself more relaxed and willing to engage in the light-hearted banter.

"Remember that time we tried cooking together?" Darsh asked, a mischievous grin on his face.

Kanishka laughed, recalling the disaster that had been their attempt at making a fancy dinner at home. "How could I forget? We almost burned down the kitchen."

"And we ended up ordering pizza," he added, laughing along with her. "Good times."

"It was," she admitted, a nostalgic smile on her face. "Despite the chaos."

They continued reminiscing, sharing stories and memories. For a moment, it felt like the old days, before the complications of their current situation. The tension between them seemed to fade, replaced by a genuine connection.

As they finished their meal, Darsh leaned back in his chair, watching her with a thoughtful expression. "You know, Kanishka, I really missed this. Just the two of us, enjoying a meal together."

She looked at him, a hint of sadness in her eyes. "I did too, Darsh. It's been a long time since we had moments like this."

He reached across the table, taking her hand in his. "Let's make a pact. No matter what happens, let's try to find time for each other. Even if it's just small moments like this."

Kanishka squeezed his hand, feeling a warmth in her chest. "I can agree to that."

They paid the bill and headed back home, the night air cool and refreshing. As they walked, Darsh slipped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. Kanishka leaned into him, feeling a sense of contentment she hadn't felt in a long time.

When they got home, Kanishka changed into her pajamas and curled up on the couch, feeling the exhaustion of the day catch up with her. Darsh joined her, wrapping a blanket around them both.

"Thank you for tonight," she said softly, resting her head on his shoulder. "I needed that."

"Anytime," he replied, kissing the top of her head. "Get some rest. You've earned it."

As Kanishka drifted off to sleep, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the unexpected evening. Despite the challenges they faced, moments like these reminded her that there was still something worth fighting for in their relationship. She just hoped they could find a way to navigate the complexities and come out stronger on the other side.

Darsh watched her sleep, his heart heavy with a mixture of emotions. He knew things weren't perfect, and they had a long way to go. But tonight had given him hope. And for now, that was enough.
