Yoongi fidgeted, clearly uncomfortable and it made you nervous.
It was no secret around the Army community that Yoongi's parents weren't the nicest ones and he had told you himself that his mom hardly liked anybody. You had met Jimin's dad and had been the recipient of Taehyung's and Jungkook's moms love, and had hoped that maybe the fact that you weren't that bad would reach Yoongi's parents, but by the way Yoongi was looking, it seemed that it didn't happen.
“Mom called my brother first and he told my sister in law to call me to warn me about her rage,” he chuckled, “the second I hung up with her, mom called. Dad was on the call as well.”
“She was upset about the statement and about me ‘fighting’ someone. At first, they didn't realize that it was you that the statement referred to and she kind of lost her shit. She tends to do that.” His face morphed into an upset one, “She cares too much about what people will think of her because of what I do.”
The fact that this was the first thing Yoongi's parents were learning about you was a tough hit. You were aware of how Korean society worked, how one tiny thing could follow someone for years, destroy their lives, their careers and even reflect on their families. You hated the fact that you had put Yoongi and his family in this position. No matter how many times he said it wasn't your fault, to you, it was.
Not that Hans had attacked you, not that, but that Yoongi had hit him. You knew it was a real possibility and, had you been in a clearer state of mind, you would've been able to warn him not to do anything rash. Because you also knew that no matter what, Yoongi wanted to make you happy and protect you and if that meant not punching the asshole, if you had specifically told him that, he wouldn't have done it.
It was something that you felt fell on you and you were going to tell him, eventually, that you were sorry for it. If you told him right then, it would only make him feel bad.
“I had to tell them that it was you the whole thing was about, I explained how you got your American citizenship and how you got here. I could tell dad was impressed. How couldn't he be? You're a genius, princess,” he squeezed your hands, “but mom was adamant about how you're not good for me and that I shouldn't be dating a foreigner.” He stopped talking for a couple of seconds and his face fell.
There it was. The blow to heart, the punch to the gut and the gun to your head. It was only a matter of time until someone important to him told him that and they were probably right. You realized just then that you could indeed face Army, you could fight Army and Hybe and the world for Yoongi, but not his parents.
Never his parents.
You took a deep breath, reminding yourself that just a few minutes ago Yoongi had promised your sister that he'd be good. He had made plans for your birthday. The entire weekend he had gone above and beyond for you, risking his entire career. So no, this wasn't him breaking up with you, no, he was just going to deliver unpleasant news and probably things that you were going to have to work on together.
“Y/N? Baby, what's wrong?” Yoongi had his hand on your cheek, the one that wasn't hurt, and was frantically searching your eyes. You shook your head and gave a little smile.
“Nothing, my love, I zoned out. Listen,” you continued, “I know you're pressed for time and that everything that happened has altered a lot of things. But I do believe that you need to meet with your parents. Even if it's just you. They must be very worried.”
“I am pretty sure that they don't want to meet me, not yet at least and I sort of want to make a good impression when I do meet them. But they deserve to know. You should tell them.”
Not even your parents knew and you were willing to have his parents into your secret. It was something that could make or break their opinion of you, but it was just like ripping off a bandaid, better to do it in one pull.
