Chapter: The Beginning of Defeat
Part 1: A Tyrant in a Hospital Gown
The sterile scent of antiseptic filled the hospital room, mingling with the tension crackling in the air. Hanseok sat on the examination table, his hands gripping the edge so tightly his knuckles turned white. His jaw was clenched, and his sharp eyes flicked toward the nurse hovering near his side.
Nurses shuffled around with forced patience, their movements tense as they attempted to treat Hanseok’s ear. The wound itself wasn’t life-threatening, just a minor injury—nothing that required all this drama.
But Hanseok
He was furious.
“I swear, if you don’t stop poking at me, I’ll—”
“Sir, please hold still,” the nurse said gently, her hands trembling slightly as she reached for his wounded ear.
Hanseok flinched when the disinfectant touched his skin, but it wasn’t from pain. It was rage.
"Are you stupid?" His voice was sharp, cutting through the room like a blade. "You’re making it worse."
The nurse took a step back, swallowing nervously.
Across the room, Hanseo and Myung-hee stood side by side, exchanging cautious glances.
“Sir” Myung-hee started carefully, her usual smirk absent. “You should stay and get proper treatment. If that gets infected—”
Hanseok turned his glare on her so quickly that she shut up instantly.
“Then let it get infected!” Hanseok spat, shoving away the nurse trying to clean the wound. “I don’t need your concern.”
Hanseo hesitated before stepping forward. “Hyung, just stay for a little while. It’s not—”
The metal tray on the counter crashed to the floor as Hanseok swung his arm, knocking it aside in a violent burst of temper. The nurse flinched, pressing herself against the wall as the instruments scattered across the floor.
“I said I’m fine,” he snapped, his fingers curling into fists. His frustration was barely contained, barely restrained. Hanseo flinched
"Do you think I have time for this?" Hanseok seethed, his breathing heavy, his patience nonexistent. "Do I look like a man who sits in a hospital bed while the world moves without him?"
Hanseo sighed, already familiar with his brother’s unpredictable moods. "At least let them finish cleaning it—"
“No.”
His tone was final.
But then, his gaze flicked toward Kiara.
She was seated quietly, her hands resting in her lap, her face unreadable. But her eyes—those deep, knowing eyes—held something different.
Not fear. Not anger.
Something else.
He hated it.
He hated how she looked at him like she was seeing through him. His wild energy stilled for just a second.
But when she finally spoke, her voice was soft, almost hesitant.
“Hanseok…”
His temper cooled just enough for reason to slip through the cracks.
Because Kiara rarely said his name like that.
And he wanted her to keep looking at him.
His lips twitched, the remnants of his smirk creeping back onto his face. With an exaggerated sigh, he leaned back slightly, watching her intently.
