"The spectacular couple is expected to attend a fashion week show in Paris tomorrow."
Since Yoongi arrived in Paris, this sensational couple has been mentioned everywhere, from tabloids to online articles. Yet, none of the reports included any photos. Curious about their identity, he noted that the articles said they had invested significantly in the event. He was even more intrigued because he was invited to the same event. As a first-timer, he felt extremely nervous about meeting new people, especially the wealthy and well-known.
Meanwhile, Namjoon arrived at the airport early in the morning, preparing to leave Ottawa for his next destination. While sipping his coffee at a café, he spotted someone familiar.
"Jackie?" he mumbled, unable to believe his eyes. He hadn't seen this guy in nearly a decade.
"Jackson!" Namjoon called out, waving his hand. The man stopped walking and looked over, spotting his friend.
"Namjoon?" Jackson looked genuinely surprised to see his long-lost friend standing before him and immediately approached.
"Yo, man!" Namjoon greeted him with a hug. Jackson returned it, patting his back.
"What's up, man?" Jackson asked once they were seated.
"I'm doing well. It's been a long time," Namjoon said, smiling.
"It has. So, what are you doing in Canada? Are you here on business?" Jackson asked.
"No, I'm on vacation," Namjoon replied, noticing Jackson's eyes darting around as if searching for someone. "Are you alone?"
"I am." Namjoon sensed where this conversation was heading.
"I thought you told me you had a girlfriend." Namjoon just smiled, recognizing his friend's curiosity. He sipped his coffee before answering, "I did."
"Why? Did you guys break up because you were cheating on her?" Jackson joked, giving his friend a playful shove.
"No, she died." Namjoon avoided his friend's gaze, sipping his coffee as the memory overwhelmed him. The pain in his heart was more bitter than the coffee.
Jackson's smile faded completely. He mentally kicked himself for being so insensitive. "I'm sorry. I didn't... I didn't know."
"That's fine. It's not your fault," Namjoon said, forcing a smile. But Jackson could see the pain and loss etched in his friend's eyes—a grief Namjoon had clearly kept to himself.
"Do you want to talk about it, my friend?" Jackson asked gently.
"She died in a car accident three years ago," Namjoon said quietly.
"I'm so sorry for your loss." Jackson took a deep breath, understanding all too well how hard it was to lose someone you loved. "Man, I know this is hard for you, but if you ever need to talk, just let me know, okay?"
"Don't worry about me. I'm okay. So, what are you doing here? Are you going somewhere?" Namjoon finally noticed Jackson's backpack.
"Yeah, I'm headed to Paris for work," Jackson said, glancing at his wristwatch. "My flight's at nine." Jackson's phone rang before Namjoon could ask more questions.
"Jackie, where are you?" a voice asked as soon as he answered.
"I'm at the café. Are you done, sweetheart?" Jackson asked with a smile. The person hummed in response. "Okay, I'll come over," he replied, then hung up.
"Looks like you're not alone. Was that your girlfriend?" Namjoon asked next.
"No, she's my boyfriend's sister." Namjoon was surprised to hear this; now he understood why his best friend had shown no interest in women during college.
