Tears In The Rain

The wind howled aggressively into the dark night sky while raindrops splattered against the ground and surrounding plants.

The ground was turned mushy and wet, squelching from the weight of the rain alone.

In the midst of the storm, Cricket sat by herself in a small patch of grass, surrounded by trees and other greenery.
There was a clear opening above her where she would've been able to see the moon if it wasn't storming so hard.

Cricket had her head drooping towards the ground as water splattered across her cheeks.
It mixed and blended in with the tears that were escaping her eyes.

The saddened Hivewing sobbed quietly, as the wind drowned out every sound she made.
Her talons and tail were drenched in mud, which disgustingly squelched with every little movement she made.
Cricket didn't care, though; she just sat there, crying. Crying in the moonlight until she had no tears left...

Meanwhile, Sundew was lost in the rainforest somewhere, cutting her way through wet foliage.
Despite having grown up in a jungle that was much more dangerous, it seemed that she just wasn't used to the layout of the rainforest.

Unlike the Poison Jungle, the rainforest trees were much more compact together, and the foliage was much thicker, making it hard to traverse unless you knew what you were doing.

Sundew breathed heavily as she hacked and slashed at the foliage with her claws, only for more to always appear afterwards.
The rain beat down, slowly but surely dwindling her energy in the process.

Lighting flickered across the sky, followed by a thunderous crackle which shook the ground slightly.

Sundew paused, leaning against a tree.
"Cricket...!" She called out once again.
Her voice was raspy and quieter than before since she'd been screaming out Cricket's name for the past fifteen or twenty minutes.

At this point, Sundew was starting to worry.
The storm had only gotten worse since she'd left the others back in the village, and it was starting to get a little risky being out in such horrid conditions.

As lighting crackled once again, Sundew took cover underneath a nearby tree.
The rain poured down, flooding the ground as the plants struggled to absorb it all, so the water overflowed.

It was similar to how Sundew had been feeling these past few days.
All these emotions, all the pain and suffering, times when she felt like nothing but a screwup, it was all starting to bombard her at once.

Sundew's eyes started to water as she looked down.
Her own reflection stared back at her through the flooded grass.
"Why... Why do I always mess everything up...?" She sobbed.
'Willow joined the Heathens because she thought she needed to prove herself to me... Because I made her feel weak... And now she's dead because of it.'

More tears started to flow down her cheeks as Sundew bit her lip.
She started to sob a little harder as the strength left her legs, and she toppled against the tree behind her.

In the past, she used to not care about what others thought.
But now, all of those disapproving glares, hurt eyes, and insults she'd earned because of her actions were starting to wear her down mentally.

Sundew smiled sadly through her tears.
'Why do I even bother... I can't keep a friendship, I can't control myself, and all I do is get others hurt if not worse...'
She sighed.
"Willow... I'm so sorry... I should've never fallen in love with you..."
She started to sob more as uncontrollable tears ran down her face.
"Because then maybe... You'd still be alive..."

Sundew rubbed her eyes, though it did nothing to stop the tears from falling onto the muddy ground.
Her chest convulsed, failing to calm down as the weather worsened.
