Daniel let out a sigh of relief and exhaustion as the fires faded.
He was showered in blood of multiple different colours and so much mud that you'd think he was a hybrid of sorts.
A few moments later, Daniel toppled over from exhaustion. His grip strength faltered, and his sickle landed on the ground with a soft thud.
Next to him was his bag, sitting in the dirt untouched.
He quickly grabbed it weakly and placed it around his neck, securing it.
His body was in pain, so much that Daniel wondered whether he'd ever be able to get up again.
He closed his eyes, listening to the breeze around him.
A few moments passed as Daniel let himself recover as much as he could.
The wet bloodied grass served as a soft cushion for his scales which at this point were aching uncontrollably.
Eventually, Daniel opened his eyes again expecting to see the starry night sky but was instead met with a dozen faces and eyes looking at him.
His adrenaline kicked in again briefly as his head shot upwards.
However, despite himself feeling very threatened, his body and muscles were spent. He couldn't move even if he wanted to.
However, this initial fear was soon dismissed once he recognised the familiar faces of his friends and the runaway students.
Their expressions ranged from worried, to shocked to slightly impressed, but for the most part, it seemed they were both upset and slightly angered.
Daniel raised a brow as he -with great struggle- got himself up onto all fours again so he could look at them face to face.
"Are you guys alright...? What's going on? You all seem upset,"
Nobody said anything, instead most of them shot Daniel a few betrayed looks.
They also were doing the same to Charlotte who was standing a little bit away from the group, even Kori, her girlfriend, didn't want to look at her.
Daniel opened his mouth to speak but was instead cut off by Qibli who was right in front of him.
"Why..." He said with a mix of anger and sadness in his voice.
"Why didn't you tell us...?"
Daniel didn't understand and Qibli picked up on it. However, instead of replying in his usually calm or cheerful demeanour he simply yelled at Daniel harshly.
"WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US THAT WE WEREN'T REAL!?"
Daniel's mind stopped as his face turned into a mix of shock, regret, and silence.
He looked down, not knowing how to respond.
Suddenly Moon chimed in with a similar expression as Qibli.
She wasn't as angry as him, she was mainly disappointed and upset but with a hint of betrayal.
"This was the large secret you said you couldn't say back at school... Right...?"
Daniel's mind flashed back to what felt like forever ago when he and Moon were delivering the papers of homework back to Clay's office, right before they were about to ditch school.
Daniel sighed sadly as he nodded his head... Turns out that a small decision would lead to catastrophic consequences... As well as one of Daniel's worst fears... That his friends would find out the truth...
Moon didn't comment further.
However, that didn't mean that others didn't intervene.
"That's how you knew about all of us!" Kinkajou said as her scales shifted to a mix of red and blue.
