Daniel was pinned underneath the claws of the pale Skywing.
However, he didn't care; his eyes were instead fixated on the Female Human who was calmly approaching him.

"Now, now, that's enough, let him go,"
She said.

About a second later, the Skywing gently took its claws off Daniel, backing off but still looking a bit fidgety.

"Sorry about him," The Human said as she walked over to crouch next to him.
"He can get a little excited around other humans... And small creatures in general."
She offered a hand to Daniel.

Daniel was still in a confused daze, but took her hand anyway as he was promptly lifted to his feet once again.
"Thanks,"

The human didn't respond; instead, she turned to the Skywing.
"You need to stop pouncing on unsuspecting humans! We don't know how dangerous they could be or where they're from!"
She said before shooting Daniel a quick side eye.
"You're lucky this guy seems to just be an ordinary teen and not some skilled dragonslayer,"

Sky gave a small, saddened face.
"B-But come on! Look at him! He can't be THAT dangerous! He barely looks like he's 6 years old!"

Daniel's mouth fell open slightly as he overheard the blatant insults, but he wasn't able to get a say in before the human interrupted.

"Sky... We've been over this; humans age differently from dragons. He looks around seventeen, not six."

Sky nodded.
"Yeah, I know, Wren, and seventeen is around six dragon years, so I said he looks around six"
Sky said.

Wren squinted.
"That doesn't... You know what, never mind."
She turned back to Daniel, this time with a more serious look as she looked him up and down with a raised brow.
"So who are you exactly?

Daniel was still confused and gathering his bearings, so he didn't answer quickly.
However, after Wren kept staring at him expectantly, he eventually got himself together.
"O-oh! Sorry, the name's Daniel."

Wren nodded.
"Right... Well, Daniel, I'm Wren, and this here is Sky"
She gestured to the Skywing next to her, who waved happily at him.

Daniel nodded, trying his best to act like he didn't know them.
Well... He didn't know them very well, seeing as he never did end up reading Dragonslayer.
'So I've only got the events of the last two books to go off of, which isn't much...'
He took in a quick breath.
'Best to be casual...'

"Nice to meet you," He shot them both a soft smile.
Wren returned an odd look, and so did Sky.

Daniel raised a brow,
"Uh... Did I say something wrong?"

Wren continued staring at him oddly.
"No... You didn't... You don't even seem remotely confused or shocked... And that's the strange part..."

Sky walked over, somehow a little more composed than usual.
"Normally, any human would be confused or scared about a dragon speaking their language, so why aren't you?"

Daniel gulped. He didn't have a proper reason for that.
"I- uhh... I'm... Used to it..?"

Wren raised a brow, clearly unconvinced.
"How so, exactly...?"

Daniel did his absolute best to keep composed, even though inside he was more or less a panicking trainwreck.
'Come on, Daniel, think! Surely there's some sort of justifiable reasoning you can come up with!'

Daniel kept silent for a few more moments, but just before he was about to give up, the idea hit him.

Daniela's eyes lit up visibly, and he managed to calm himself down internally before speaking.
"Sorry, what I meant to say was that I'm not surprised about it, not that I was used to it."
