Back at his outpost, Caleb is laying on a cot in a makeshift infirmary tent. Vaine, Ally, Vanessa, and Mark are standing around him.
Mark: You're lucky. If you died, I would've had to kill you.
Caleb lets out a slight laugh.
Caleb: I know. But I was in good hands.
He glances over at Ally.
Mark lets out a sigh.
Mark: And speaking of them... not everybody is going to be okay with this. There are ones who still have what Justin did in their minds. They don't feel too good about having more in a tent not too far from them.
Caleb: It's not going to be easy. Certainly hard to forget. But they'll see that they're not bad. It'll just take time.
Mark nods at him.
Mark: I'll go check on them again. Maybe knowing it came from you will help them.
Vanessa: I'll come with you.
Mark looks over at her.
Mark: Is that a good idea?
Vanessa: They might remember me as one of the vampires who fought on your side.
Mark stares at her for a few seconds before nodding.
Mark: Okay. But if they don't like it, we leave. Got it?
Vanessa: Absolutely.
Mark: Then come on.
Mark and Vanessa exit the tent.
Ally: Well, she's getting what she wants.
Vaine lets out a slight laugh.
Vaine: So you're not the only one, huh? Guess it could be something I'd get used to.
Ally glances over at him as her cheeks turn slightly red.
Vaine: I'll go check on our people.
He glances in between Caleb and Ally before exiting the tent.
Caleb: How do you think the others feel about this?
She sits down on the edge of his bed.
Ally: Well... I'm sure they'll like having an actual wall for protection. Being in a tent will take some getting used to... but I'm sure they'll like feeling safe again.
He nods.
Caleb: I'll certainly do everything I can. I think it's more important now than ever for us to come together. I'm just hoping that the others spread around will feel the same way.
Ally: I'm sure they will. It would be pretty stupid not to at this point. Humans and vampires can't afford to fight anymore. It'll just give the werewolves a bigger advantage.
Caleb: Word will take a while to spread, though. But it will.
Ally: Then there's still plenty to keep us busy. Just after I know that you're completely okay first.
He smiles at her.
Caleb: Just as long as I know I have you here, I'll be fine.
She smiles back at him. They stare at each other for a few seconds before she leans in toward him, kissing him. She can hear his heart beating fast, putting her hand on his chest to hold herself steady. He puts his hand over hers, holding it in place, enjoying the slight cold feeling of her lips.
Upon separation, they both catch their breath, staring into each others eyes.
Caleb: That... definitely helps make me feel better...
Ally: Then I'll do it as many times as you need. But you do need some actual rest, too. There's a lot that still needs to be done, and the werewolves definitely won't stop after that.
He holds her hand, squeezing it gently.
Caleb: Just don't go too far.
Ally: I won't.
They exchange another quick kiss before he lays back and closes his eyes. A big smile crosses her face as she stares down at him.
