Training with Meta Knight can be... strange. Neither of us really know what we're doing in this regard. I can't just be left to my own devices with mild supervision like Kirby, he kinda has to be right there, right next to me, watching and correcting me as I go. It's not that he's a bad teacher, or that I'm not learning, it's more that neither of us is really made for this setting.
I've gotten moderately better with this newfound magic, don't get me wrong. I'm not unknowingly using this power, and I'm getting better with using it to a more strenuous degree, but in terms of being a good fighter? That doesn't seem to really be my thing. It feels strange. A warrior is clearly Kirby's path. It's what Meta Knight is, to my knowledge, it's what Sirica and Joe are, and at the very least, Sword Knight and Blade Knight are, well, knights. I guess it's not that everyone I know is some sort of soldier, after all, Tiff, Tuff, really most, if not all, of the people from Popstar are just people living their lives. I don't ever feel disgusted by that, or look down on it, and I don't think anyone else does.
But still, it feels... almost irresponsible to do nothing with this. I can make a difference, I could do good, and it would be wrong of me if I didn't, wouldn't it?
I haven't really been sleeping lately, not that anyone needs to know that. I've been staying up just... practicing. Which probably isn't the best idea when my powers are fire based, and my home is made of wood... But I don't need to be responsible, that's probably someone else's job. It's not like I've been trying to do big bursts of fire anyways, it's more endurance. Trying to see how long I can keep a small fire at my finger tip before I get tired or distracted. And that seems to be making some sort of progress with my training. Just in that I'm getting a bit less tired when doing it for prolonged periods. Or maybe that's just because of the training itself.
Either way, doing this makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something, and with my current fluctuation between happy and normal and almost cripplingly depressed, that sense of progress is something to hold onto. Especially with the sense of responsibility this power is pushing down on me with.
I huff a bit as the flame flickers, before going out. I look to the little pocket watch I got as a gift... I think from Sir Ebrum..? I lasted longer than last time, so that's always progress... it's past midnight by now, maybe around two, two thirty. I should probably go to bed, I'm feeling drained... but I can't sleep. Maybe an hour passes, maybe two, I'm not certain. But I can't sleep. I don't have the energy to get up, but I can't sleep.
So, I set another flame at my finger tip, pulling out the watch again to keep time. I may as well, I'm not going to sleep anyways. It's honestly crazy how such a small light source is enough to light the room this much, but not so much that I can make out everything in the little place I'm currently calling my home. Enough to see the general shapes of things, but not really any details. Enough to see patterns, but not really.
During these nights, I always wind up loosing my focus. My thoughts drift and wonder until I see the flame flicker and die. Then I reset the timer.
I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. Especially when I'm alone, especially these nights when I'm doing this. I've been thinking of my life on Earth, before waking up here. I miss my family, most definitely, and I've been feeling guilty every time I realize I forgot them for a bit. Has it been long enough for the grief to pass? To start forgetting them, or replacing their roles in my life? After Meta Knight called me his kid, my thoughts have been drifting back to my... biological dad, I guess is what I would call him now.
What would he think of this place? Of Meta Knight? Of all these people? As much as I love my dad, love my family, they aren't the best people. I don't know that I would say they're bad people, maybe that's just my own bias. By no means would I say they're bad people were perfect, but the fact that I'm struggling to call my biological dad good... Is that wrong? Am I wrong for that? Is that disrespectful to... Well, I assumed they were dead, but then that whole with with Wolfwrath...
My sister wanted to be a published author. My dad was retired from his work as a fireman, even if he still worked. My younger brother was really getting into welding, my older brother was about to move in with his girlfriend. What did my mom want? I spent so much time with her growing up, she was a stay at home mom, but what do I really know about her? And then I woke up here.
I woke up here, barely knowing my own culture, not really knowing any others, believing I'm the last human. A lack of evidence doesn't mean it's not true. It doesn't mean it's true either. Am I the last human? I'm here, my dog was here. Countless monsters that Kirby's been fighting, at least of them reminiscent of Earth's animals. I had been physically changed during my quick time with 'Wolfwrath', had I been altered before I woke up on Popstar? Had other people? Had... whatever changed me changed them so much that I just can't identify them as people anymore?
What if people are alive? What if people I know are alive? What if my dad's alive? What if I start calling Meta Knight my dad, and my biological dad shows up? How would he react? Would he be angry at me? Would he be angry at Meta Knight?
I would be happy to see him, I know I would. But what if he tried to take me from Meta Knight? I almost want to say I'd go with him, but I don't know right now. Maybe I'm just tired. Where would we even go anyways? I know my biological dad enough to know he's stubborn. I understand things enough to know that if Meta Knight put up any sort of fight about it, my biological dad would just punt him away. Unless Meta Knight were to actually fight? While I'm stronger than Meta Knight on a very basic strength scaling, he's definitely more experienced than I am. He's probably more experienced than my biological dad. Probably.
But if he is being... whatever happened to me, whatever happens to make Wolfwrath, what if that's happened to him? To the rest of my family? What happens to all the monsters Kirby defeats? What happens to them? What if they were people I know? What if dad gets really hurt? What if he already has been?
I'm jolted out of my thoughts by a knock at my door. It's late out, or maybe just really early? Is it Kirby? He doesn't usually knock. But my door is locked, I don't know that he can undo a lock, let alone from the outside. They aren't announcing themselves, not really saying anything. Was there even a knock? Maybe I'm just more tired than I think. But then I hear more knocking.
