A high-pitched song from a woman dressed as a Viking echoed throughout the auditorium. Behind her, an elegantly dressed pianist accompanied her performance while a spotlight followed her every move across the stage.
Among the audience, the cherubs, now dressed elegantly for the occasion, fluttered around Lyle. They had fastened a little bow tie over his hospital gown and managed to find him a spot, stretcher and all, among an audience far too absorbed in the performance to pay them much attention.
Cletus: Behold! The wonder of art and music!
The three cherubs proudly watched the singer, who performed atop a ridiculous fake unicorn.
Cletus: Somethin' always there to comfort... entertain... and live for!
Lyle stared at the woman, trying to make some sense of the little flying baby's words.
Meanwhile, high above the stage, I.M.P. and their apprentice finished climbing onto the catwalk after confirming their target was somewhere among the audience.
The three imps peered down to locate him. Y/N tried to do the same, but the height felt much worse without her claws to grip the metal or her tail to help her balance. After one glance down, she quickly squeezed herself between Blitzø and Moxxie, clutching both of their jackets for support so she could peek over the edge a little more safely.
As the singer reached another dramatically high note, something about it brought back a familiar memory. A small smile crept across the girl's face, and she leaned toward Moxxie.
Y/N: Remember when we snuck into that musical without paying? We're doing it again!
She giggled softly, only to fall quiet when she noticed her former mentor staring back at her with an entirely serious expression.
Moxxie: You snuck into another musical without paying... You.
Y/N's smile vanished. She slowly released his jacket, shrinking into herself as she lowered her gaze. Neither Blitzø nor Millie seemed to notice the exchange, both too focused on the mission.
The female imp straightened up and looked down at the performance below.
Millie: So... how do we make this bad?
Moxxie finally turned his attention away from the girl and toward his wife.
Moxxie: We can't. There's literally nothing bad about opera. That's fact.
Beside him, Blitzø had spent the last several seconds swishing his tail from side to side like a cat stalking its prey. He finally straightened with a mischievous grin.
Blitzø: Unless we ruin it somehow!
He leaned over the edge to reach the spotlight hanging beneath the catwalk and, sticking his tongue out like a mischievous child, shoved it aside.
The beam slid away from the singer, making her cut herself off in confusion before hurrying after it and positioning herself beneath the light to resume her song. Blitzø promptly moved it again, forcing her to stop and follow it once more.
The cherubs and Lyle watched the spectacle in confusion.
Lyle Lipton: She's not very good.
Blitzø snickered as he tugged at the spotlight from above, swinging it faster and faster from side to side.
His team grinned as the singer scrambled after the beam, growing increasingly distracted every time it slipped away and repeatedly interrupting her performance just to catch up with it.
