"In America the Law is King"

- Thomas Paine, Common Sense

In America the law is god

Solace only in a lawless year,

But truly it rules with an iron rod,

Tyranny breaks into greater fear.

In America we Monarch none,

Except of course the stupid crowd,

Except we monarch everyone,

Each voice yelling far too loud.

The people are a simple beast,

For if enough should so decree,

I fear my life and rein at least,

A horde, you know, can never see.

In America the crown is spread,

Spread far enough to heed no whim,

But if enough start seeing red,

Towards anyone, I pity him.

In America we start anew,

Hence cast aside what may have been,

One needn't be smart to fool you,

Just have a voice as smooth as sin.

In America we have liberty

Free to be and have dominion over,

Free to hate and attack the free,

To go against and poison the other.

In America we could excel this age,

Yet we've been pushed farther down.

Stunted like a lion in a cage,

Or an eagle pinned to the ground.

In America volume is a virtue,

Spin doctors working on and on,

Their opinions have nothing to do with you.

Oh father and seer, where has your vision gone?
