I sighed, resting my head against the cold pillow of the hospital bed.
A doctor had been in the room about 20 minutes ago when there was an emergency and he ran off, leaving me to vent for myself while trying not to show the pain I was under too much since Luke was sitting right beside me.
He was nervously tapping his foot on the floor, my hand tightly clutched in his.
I felt surprisingly calm at the moment and I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.
The pain kept showing up randomly and disappeared again a few minutes later but the time in between was definitely shorter than what it was yesterday.
In fact, right now it was even shorter than it was this morning, meaning that the time was decreasing very quickly.
'Are the other guys still on the beach?' I asked, trying to calm down Luke's nerves a little.
He looked at me and nodded 'Michael went to find the other guys when I left but I didn't tell them we went to the hospital yet' he said quietly.
I nodded 'Maybe you should. If they come back to the hotel and find that neither of us is there they'll probably get really worried'
'I mean...they should be worried' Luke said, smiling sadly as he took his phone and quickly typed some things.
'Okay, where were we?' the doctor sighed, walking back inside the room.
He took the pen and paper that he was writing on before he left and looked at the things he wrote down, frowning slightly every time he had trouble reading his own handwriting.
'Alright, your file says that you called a few days ago because your belly hurt right?' he asked.
I nodded, feeling a new sting shoot up my baby bump.
Squeezing Luke's hand tightly, the doctor continued his questions like nothing was going on.
'How long had they been going on when you called?'
'Just...since that day' Luke replied for me.
'But was the first one in the morning? Or was it the middle of the day?'
Luke looked at me 'In the morning, right?' he asked.
I nodded, sighing when the pain slowly faded away again.
'Alright, how long was the pause in between those contractions back then?'
'2 or 3 hours' I said, looking at the doctor as I tried to catch my breath.
'Did that time decrease at all before you started leaking?'
I shook my head 'but it also didn't increase until right before I started leaking'
The doctor nodded and wrote everything down.
'And you said you first started leaking something that was clear and the last time there was also blood?'
I nodded again and the doctor put away the pen and paper.
'When did you feel her kick for the last time?'
'Late last night before I fell asleep. It was around 2am'
The doctor nodded and started pushing on my baby bump.
'Not at all this morning?' he asked.
I shook my head and looked at Luke who was carefully watching the doctor's hands move around my belly.
'I'm going to quickly make an ultrasound' the doctor announced while walking out the room.
He returned a few minutes later and quickly started turning it on and adjusting things before putting some of the cold jelly on my belly and looking at the screen.
He turned up the volume so he would be able to hear the baby's heartbeat.
We waited nervously as the doctor inspected my belly.
The doctor just stared at the screen, frowning every once in a while before moving on.
The pain came back again and I softly groaned, already going slightly insane because of it.
'Ooh' the doctor suddenly mumbled, sitting closer to the screen as he stopped moving the wand of the ultrasound over my belly.
I looked at Luke, as he just stared to the doctor and the screen that I couldn't see anymore because the doctor was blocking my view.
'Did you ever feel this pain before it started a few days ago?' the doctor asked, turning to me.
I thought about his question for a second but shook my head.
'Never'
He sighed again and nodded before putting the wand back in its holder and pushing the ultrasound to the side.
Handing Luke a paper towel, he stood up.
'Clean up her belly. I'm going to get the nurse,' he said, pressing a button beside my bed and walking to the end of the bed.
'And see how far you're dilated' he said.
He quickly told me to open my legs as he put on some latex gloves.
The entire room fell quiet as another contraction found its way through my stomach.
A nurse walked in a few minutes later and the doctor looked at her, pulling the gloves off his hands.
'I'm going to need more nurses, the oxygen tank needs to be here in case she needs it and I want to keep an eye on the baby's heartbeat because it's a too slow' He rambled as he walked to the ECG and quickly attached it to my body.
'Do you have a name for the baby?' he asked calmly.
I frowned and nodded.
The doctor smiled.
'Good. You have about one to two hours left to figure out if that's really what you want her name to be because we're going to get her out.'
