Alpha

Trees and plants flew by as we ran. For some reason today's run was nowhere near the same as all the others. It was like something was driving me. i felt blinded by this unknown drive. Usually during pack run we take turns and loops and i try to make an obstacle course of it to see who can keep up with the sharp turns and high jumps. But today, we were going straight. Dead straight, as if i was being pulled.
"Alpha" my beta, Oliver called through our link. "We're nearing the edge of our territory. We have to turn back or run onto Levin's territory."
I slowed to a stop, stopping about twenty feet from the border. The sun would be setting soon. But I still felt compelled to keep going. I rose my nose to the sky and took a hard sniff. There was something there. AS if my instincts smelt it before i actually did.
I looked over my shoulder and spoke to those following me. "Go back. Oliver you lead the pack. Return to the house and go about the day. I'll be back later."
Everyone gave me worried and confused eyes but nodded and followed after Oliver. I took a quick sniff and found a buried stash of clothes. I grabbed shoes and some sweat pants before shifting.

Walking through Karen Town was odd. I rarely ever came just because this is Levin's territory and it's not good on our already strained relations.
I was absentmindedly following the scent while keeping my guard up while in foreign land.
The smell was close enough to taste when Levin and his beta came up to me. they held guarded gazes towards my intrusion.
"To what do we owe the honor?" Levin asked.
I gave him a small nod acknowledging his presence and authority in his land. "I mean no intrusion but i think I'm smelling my mate."
There was no other explanation. No scent had ever smelt so good as to take over my very body. To drive my wolf this nuts as to do something so stupid as to walk unannounced into another pack's territory.
He gave me a small smirk. "The big bad Jax is about to be tamed" he taunted with a chuckle. "I have to see this. We'll give you a ride."
I got into a shiny black car  and Levin drove slow as i gave him directions. my mouth was watering as we got closer and closer.  Then i took a sniff and my heart hammered inside my chest. "Stop the car" I yelled.
He stopped and I almost ran from the car. I sniffed her out. I went down an alley until I came upon a woman looking worn and beaten.
She looked up at me and a small smile pulled up her lips. She was a mess yet i saw the beauty hidden under the bruises and filth.
"Mine" I said lowly.
Her brown eyes seemed to water. Was she sad i was her mate?
We just looked at each other for a few moments. Why hadn't she said anything?
A step reminded me that we had company. Levin and his beta stood at the end of the alley and watched our little scene. I then remembered wolf law. I growled to myself. The happiness that had filled me flattened a little. I can't just take her. She's on his territory.
I crouched down so i wasn't towering over her. She watched me with unreadable eyes. I wonder what she was thinking right now. "Listen to me little one. I am your mate, and you are mine. You seem very hurt and tired. I want you to come with me if that's what you want." I paused to see if i could gauge some sort of reaction from her, but she was just staring at me. i sighed. "I won't make you do anything okay. You tell Levin if you ever want to see me and I will always embrace you with open arms." I held out my hand and she looked down to it, and then up to my face. She hesitantly reached out but couldn't bring herself to touch my hand. She curled up closer and closed her eyes.

Levin dropped me off at the border after a silent ride in his car. I got out doing my best not to slam his door and started my walk back home.
I called for Oliver to bring a car so i wouldn't have to walk all the way home.
I saw the familiar silver car coming towards me when I sensed another car from behind and then heard a horn honk. I spun around and it was Levin's car. He pulled up in front of me. I heard Oliver get out of the car behind me.  The back door opened and her scent hit me. She got out of the car looking lost. Then she spotted me and I received a small smile. Seeing her standing i saw how emaciated she looked. She appeared to be of average height, maybe a bit on the taller side, with wild brown locks, frizzy and tangled. Her brown eyes focused on me and it was like there was hope in her eyes. She held an old blanket wrapped around her chest, and made it looked like she only had a small pair of shorts on. She feebly started to limp towards me. She seemed to be trying to run but some sort of injury was preventing her. She stumbled a little and i went to her, catching her in my grasp. I looked worriedly down at her. What had this woman gone through to end up like this.
"My names Della" she said a creaky sort of rasp. Her voice sounded as if she hadn't spoken in years. "I...I..want to be with you."
I nodded. "That's good to hear" I said happily. "I want to be with you too."
"You don't know me" she said.
"And you don't know me, but you feel it just like i do."
I nodded a thanks at Levin before picking her up and carrying her to the car. I got in the backseat and held her while Oliver drove us home.
"My name is Jax" I said.
"I'm Della" she said.
I chuckled, "I remember. We're going to my house. We're gonna get you a shower and treat your wounds okay?" She nodded. "Then we can eat and rest." She nodded. "I need you to speak out if something is wrong or hurting you okay." She nodded. "Della" I said.
She looked down. "Yes sir" she said quickly.
I lifted her chin and her scared eyes met mine. "You're never in trouble Della. Please don't be so formal least of all with me."
"Yes sir. I mean Jax."
I smiled down at her. "You're beautiful."
She looked down. "I can't be. I'm filthy and gross."
"That's how i know you're beautiful."
Her brows knitted together. "What do you mean?"
"Cuz if you look this good dirty you must be drop dead gorgeous."
For the first time i got to see an actual smile from her.
We eventually pulled up to the house and i saw three people waiting for us. Anthony our doctor, my mother, and Lily her best friend. I got out, still carrying her, and my mother was craning her neck trying to see Della in my arms.
"Hello mom" I said.
A grin bigger than any other I'd ever seen on her face greeted me. "Welcome home. I heard you found your mate. She looks in bad shape."
I gave a nod. "She's going to need some tender care."
"Me and Lily are on it" mom said eagerly.
Anthony came right over and gave a warm smile. "Hello, my name is Anthony. I'm a doctor and I would like to check you over to see if you have any wounds that need immediate attention. Is that all right?"
Della gave a cautious nod.
I walked inside and went into my office. I pushed some papers back and set her on my desk.
"Will you please open your blanket?" Anthony asked.
Della looked at me. I gave a reassuring nod. She slowly opened her blanket, i noticed her trembling fingers. She wore a torn shirt under the blanket with blood stains and dirt littered all over it. I took her hand and rubbed my thumb over the back of her hand. Anthony went about checking her over. She looked at me the whole time, her eyes seeming to beg for this to end.
"Okay alpha. There are some superfluous scratches and bruises but there is a gash on her thigh that needs some stitches. She has some tenderness around a couple ribs, making me think she might have a couple cracked ribs. And she has obvious malnutrition. I'll stitch up her thigh and then she'll be free to get clean and anything else she'll need."
"Jax" she whispered.
"You'll be okay" I tried to reassure her.
"Okay, I can't give you any type of drugs for the pain because of how weak you are so you're going to have to endure this."
"Jax" she cried, her terrified eyes tearing me apart.
I wrapped her arms around my neck and  then wrapped mine around her waist. "Hold on to me. The pain will be quick."
She nuzzled her face into my neck.
