Have you always wondered why Russia is so big? But before explaining why, let's jump into the flags. The current Russian flag was adopted in 1991 after the fall of the Soviet Union, the current Russian flag is a horizontal tri-color with 3 colors red, white, and blue, it is unknown why these colors are represented but a usually accepted theory is that white represents generosity, blue represents loyalty, and the red represents courage, before this flag it is the famous Soviet Union flag. The flag of the U.S.S.R is pretty simple, the red represents the Communist revolution, the red star with gold outline represents the Russian Bolshevik Party, and the hammer and sickle represents Russian socialism. And the flag before that was the flag of the Russian Empire, that flag is almost exactly the same as our current Russian flag but it has the royal coat of arms in the corner, the royal coat of arms is a yellow background with a black eagle with a crown, this obviously represents the Russian monarchy.Well now that we'refinished with flags let's begin. Let's start with this country, Keivan Rus'. Keivan Rus' has started from 882 A.D all the way to 1283. Keivan Rus' was like other countries in Europe. It collapsed because of the Mongol invasion. After the Mongols invaded, a state of Keivan Rus' known as the Grand Duchy of Moscow retook all of Keivan Rus' states. After a while in 1547 the Czardom of Russia began as the Russian Czars or simply Russian monarchs took power in Russia. Inspired by the Mongol's large empire, the Czars wanted Russia to expand, the Russian's started from Eastern Europe all the way to Alaska invading the entirety of Siberia. In 1721 Russian Empire was formed and Czar Ivan the Terrible invaded what is now Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Northwest Afghanistan. When Russia joined WW1, the Russian people started a full scale revolution and overthrew Czar Nicholas II and made a Democratic Russia. This was short lived because another revolution started and the rebels won getting rid of democracy, and starting the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R) a.k.a the Soviet Union. It started from 1917 all the way until 1989 when the U.S.S.R collapsed and the everything that wasn't mainland Russia became independent (Alaska was sold to the United States in the 1890's by the way). And after that the Russia we know today was formed known as the Russian Federation.
