Know let's start with the regions that want independence from their ruling country in North America first let's start with everything above the Mexican-American Border. Greenland. If you don't know about the mess in Greenland, the island of Greenland has been under sovereignty of Denmark for centuries, Greenland is Autonomous, which means Denmark doesn't technically fully control Greenland as Greenland acts as it's own. The only time Denmark is needed in Greenland is mostly for Military assistance. Greenland is ethnically not more connected to their European master but more like the Natives that mostly populate Greenland. The ethnic difference between Denmark and Greenland is a reason why some Greenlanders wish full independence from Denmark. Alaska, United States. Unlike most of North America, Alaska was never independent. Alaska was first colonized by the Russian Empire and in the 1890's Russia sold Alaska to the Americans. And Alaska became a territory not a state and stayed a territory until 1969 when it fully became a full state. The Alaskans again were never independent and just like Greenland, a majority of Alaska's population were indigenous Natives not whites. So just like Greenland many natives want to govern themselves instead of being governed by their larger ruling country. Quebec, Canada. If you read the Quebec Chapter you should know. But if you don't know, the Canadian province of Quebec is more French than any other Canadian province and you know about the language difference. Cascadia Northwest, North America. Cascadia includes the Canadian province of British Columbia and the American states of Washington and Oregon. Why? Well when the after the Americans and the British were discussing about the Canadian-American Border they made a "straight" line as the border everything going North of the line was British (except for Alaska, and everything going South was American (except for the countries under the Mexican-American Border. After the British and the Americans passed the Louisiana territory, there was another territory. The Oregon territory which is British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon. The line kept going until it reached the West Coast. And the island of Vancouver was given to the British. Before the annexation of the territory, it did act independent for awhile until the annexation. California, United States. California was it's own country after splitting from Mexico for 3 weeks then annexed by the United States and almost immediately became a state, many Americans want to see if another Californian Republic is possible. Texas, United States. Texas became an independent country after winning it's revolution from Mexico and it stayed like that from 1836-1846 which in 1846 was annexed by the United States. Many people believe after the Brexit vote, Texas well have its own Texit. The South, United States. Everyone knows about the Confederate States of America, the states that seceded from the Union. Today the South is much more different from the rest of the United States, the difference is mostly because of the crime and homicide rates. Now under the Mexican-American Border. Chiapas, Mexico. Chiapas is a state of Mexico and it wants to either secede or join Guatemala in Central America, most likely because of the large indigenous Mayan population living in Chiapas. Eastern Honduras and Nicaragua. If you don't know what the British controlled in Central America, the British controlled Belize which was called British Honduras, and the Mosquito Coast. The Mosquito Coast was a thin piece of land between Nicaragua and Honduras. Honduras and Nicaragua overtime annexed Mosquito. Know the people want an independent Mosquito. Puerto Rico. Just like Alaska, Puerto Rico was never independent. First Puerto Rico was colonized by Spain in 1493 all the way to 1898 until Spain lost the Spanish-American War and Puerto Rico became an American Commonwealth. Due to the cultural differences between Puerto Rico and the U.S a majority of Puerto Rico's people loved the U.S while a large minority disliked the U.S and want an independent Puerto Rico.
