Barack Obama, a president who as a achieved great things during his time in office, but sadly he will most likely be remembered by the color of his skin and not his achievements to the United States and the world. Since his time in office is almost ending there is one thing Obama has failed to achieve, and that is to closed Gitmo a.k.a Guantánamo Bay prison facility. If you don't know what Gitmo is, it is a high security prison in Cuba in the bay of Guantánamo which is run by the United States, every time the U.S marines find a terrorist they will be sent to Guantánamo where they could literally not leave. So why won't Obama close Guantánamo? Many reasons. 1 reason is that 52% of Americans want it to stay up and actually be more active. Well there is also the fact that the U.S doesn't own Guantánamo. Cuba owns Guantánamo, the U.S is just renting Guantánamo and every year since 1903 the U.S sends $4,085 to Cuba as the rent money. Before 2001, Guantánamo was used mainly for refugees from Cuba during the rise of Castro, but now it is used on terror suspects. As of right now there are 61 inmates in Guantánamo, and 10 of them are actual terrorists which will have to be sent somewhere in U.S soil, 20 of those inmates are supposed to be released but they need to wait for the state departments intelligence agencies and the department of defense to agree to take them in a chosen country, and the remaining 31 inmates whom haven't been charged with a crime but aren't cleared to be released which is why it takes Obama so long to get rid of the Guantánamo inmates and because of this Obama has no clue what do the remaining inmates. And many countries say that Guantánamo needs to be closed as it violates human rights, but it's a bit funny and hypocritical if it comes from countries like Iran, Sudan, and Libya. And speaking of, Vladimir Putin said these words about Guantánamo. "They once said that they will close Guantánamo, and what? Is closed? No. Today there is still people walking in shackles, that is just medieval. Without trial, these people stay in prison. Well just imagine, it's incredible. Can you imagine if we did that here? I can't wrap my head around it". Well Putin has a history for silencing his competition, without prison time. Well should Guantánamo be closed? Well what do you think it should be?
