Sea. Sea is something a country needs to be wealthy for exports and imports. A landlocked country is a country with no coastline (coastline on lakes like the Caspian Sea in Eurasia don't count). We are only going to do a hand full of countries that are landlocked. Bolivia. When Bolivia became an independent country the King of Spain gave Bolivia a coastline. Why did Bolivia lose its coastline? You ask. Well the coastline was claimed by Chile and Peru had access to the coast. Bolivia and Peru were secretly allies. Peru was tired of Chile's claim and declared war on Chile in 1879 which started the War of the Pacific. Bolivia obviously joined on Peru's side because they were allies and it was Bolivia's coast. After 5 years of fighting in 1885, Peru and Chile made a Peace Treaty, while Chile and Bolivia signed an Armistice Agreement which seceded the Bolivian province of Litoral which was the only part of Bolivia with coast, making Bolivia landlocked. South Sudan. The only part of Sudan that had a coast was the northern part of Sudan on the border with Egypt and Eritrea. Ethiopia was 1 of the 2 African nations that wasn't colonized. Which means when the European's drawn the borders, they got the coastlines around Ethiopia which got the British in the West, the South, and the North East. While the Italians were in the North and East, and the French in the North. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. When the Russian Empire conquered what is now Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, they became Russian States. When the Soviet Union collapsed these landlocked states became independent. The Soviet Union had no coastline except in Northern and North East Russia also in had access to the Baltic Sea which was connected to the Atlantic Ocean, and the Black Sea which had access to the Mediterranean Sea which had access to the Atlantic Ocean. Mongolia. Mongolia, the 2nd least densely populated country in the world and landlocked surrounded by China and Russia. Why? Well when the Republic of China was formed in 1912 Mongolia was an Autonomous Region known as Outer Mongolia (which is why there is an Chinese Autonomous Region named Inner Mongolia), the Autonomous Region was basically China until 1949 when the Communist Party won the Chinese Civil War Mongolia became an independent Communists nation which was Outer Mongolia. The Chinese government did think about giving the Mongolian government both Outer Mongolia and Inner Mongolia but quickly decided to keep Inner Mongolia as China.
