China, a Communist, powerful, influential, country. Again I said a COMMUNIST country. And when a country is Communist, then that means tensions between a Capitalist neighbor. One of these neighbors is Japan. A Capitalist, Economic, island nation. Currently Japan claims territory of 2 uninhabited islands the Japanese call the Senkaku Islands. While China claims territory of 2 uninhabited islands the Chinese call Diaoyo Islands. There is a problem with these claims. Their the exact same islands. And of course both countries do not recognize their claims on the islands. So we here to talk about the tensions between China and Japan and also a cameo from Taiwan. The tensions between China and Japan have been so long that the first ever recorded battle between the early Japanese government and the Chinese Dynasties was in 668. But the tensions weren't as big until the 1930's. The Republic of China (modern day Taiwan) was suffering from a Civil War. Imperial Japan saw an opportunity to invade China. In the 1880's the Qing Dynasty which was the last Chinese dynasty owned the ex Chinese island of Taiwan and Japan invaded that. In 1931 Imperial Japan invaded Manchuko from the Republic of China. And in 1937 Japan invaded China taking the then capital Nanjing. If you read my 1st Massacre and Genocide chapter you should know about the Nanjing Massacre a.k.a the Rape of Nanjing where 300,000/600,000 Chinese civilians living in Nanjing were raped or brutally killed. Of course when World War II ended in 1945 and the Japanese gave back the invaded land back to China, the Chinese Civil War came back and the Nationalist Party of China left to Taiwan and then the People's Republic of China a.k.a Communist China was born, making tensions greater that the Nationalist Party of China would ever think of. What Japan did in Nanjing is the main reason the Chinese hates Japan, as a matter a fact 80% of China had negative views on Japan. And if you read my Korea hates Japan chapter you should know that in Japanese historical books they never mentioned that the Japanese never invaded not just Korea but China as well. Which can have many reasons. 1 reason is that the Japanese don't want their own people to know that Japan was once a cruel nation. Another reason could be that the atrocities committed were to gruesome for schools to handle in Japan. Another reason might be that the Japanese government doesn't acknowledge the Nanjing Massacre or the invasion of China during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945) and World War II (1939-1945). The Chinese and the Taiwanese people both have hatred towards Japan. But when Taiwan's former President, President Ma Ying-jeou took office in 2008-2016 he kept Taiwan's tension with Japan under control and also kept Taiwan from being attacked by Communist China. But Ma is out of office, his successor female President Tsai Ing-wen is currently against Japan and calling Taiwan a Chinese province, we'll talk about Chinese and Taiwanese tensions next chapter for now imagine this scenario. Your Japanese and you want to live somewhere else in East Asia. You see most of East Asia and not interested and only interested in China or South Korea. So China a Communist state which absolutely hates the Japanese people and might threatened to be killed in China or be constantly harassed by the Chinese. Or South Korea. A Capitalist state with free human rights and a clean government ( a clean government means a government not very corrupt) also maybe harassed by Koreans but not threatened to get killed. Pick your choice Your Japanese and you want China or South Korea.
