Flags. Flags are the things that represents where you are from. Overtime and you know enough about flags. You wonder why are some flags similar. Let's talk about that. Nordic Cross, if you see the flags of the Nordic/Scandinavian countries, they all use the Nordic Cross. Why? Because Denmark, Denmark used the Nordic Cross since the Crusades, the other Nordic/Scandinavian countries used this design. Union Jack. The United Kingdom sure made people know about it, many of the UK's former colonies used the Union Jack like Australia and New Zealand, Canada's flag before the Oak Leaf was a red banner with a Union Jack, and the U.S' first flag had the 13 red and white stripes and Union Jack. South Africa, before colonization had a Union Jack on it's flag. Central America, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, & El Salvador have a blue and white tri-color. Why? Because after splitting from Mexico these countries were one nation (and Costa Rica), the Federal Republic of Central America, which flag was a white and blue tri-color. South America. Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela have similar yellow, blue, and red flags. Why? They were one nation, Gran Colombia which included all 3 nations and Panama. Pan African Movement Colors. After WW2 the African continent wanted independence, Why do a lot of those flags are red, yellow, green, and black? Because Ethiopia. Ethiopia was never colonized (except for WW2), many African governments were inspired and used the colors of Ethiopia. Cresent. Why do many countries have cresents on there flags? Because of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire spread it's empire in the Middle East all the way to Morroco, that's why countries like Algeria, Libya, Azerbaijan, etc. Tri-color. The most used flag design in the world, the tri-color. Why? Because of France. After the French Revolution, the people used a tri-color flag. Many other nations used the tri-color such as Russia, Italy, Ireland, etc. Tri-color with emblem. Another used tri-color is a normal tri-color with an emblem such as the Canada, India, Mexico, Azerbaijan, Libya, Cameroon, etc. Similar flags. Chad and Romania both have a flag that are similar a blue, gold, and red tri-color. Ivory Coast and Ireland have a similar flag a green, white, and orange tri-color. Australia and New Zealand both have a blue banner with stars and a Union Jack, the exception is New Zealand have red stars with a white outline and Australia have all white stars and have a large white star under the Union Jack.
