For most of the 20th Century there was Southeastern European Nation named Yugoslavia. But now there is 6 independent nations and 1 self-declared independent country. Why? Well. Yugoslavia started as the Kingdom of Serbia and the Kingdom of Montenegro and territory of the defeated Austro-Hungarian Empire. At first Yugoslavia was the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, but later to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The Kingdom lasted until 1941 when Yugoslavia was occupied by the Axis Powers of WW2. This ended the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was then annexed or were installed by puppet governments by other Axis puppet states or annexed by different puppet governments or other Axis Powers. After the Allied Powers won WW2, the United Nations re-established Yugoslavia as Socialist Federation of 6 republics. After becoming a Communist state Yugoslavia was neutral during the Cold War, also Yugoslavia was a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement. The reason why Yugoslavia collapsed was because of the many tensions between Yugoslavia's ethnic groups, this is the reason why Yugoslavia split but during the rule of their first leader Josip Broz Tito kept the tension under control since Tito promoted Brotherhood and Unity between the 6 republics. When Tito died in 1980, The Yugoslav Federation was breaking apart. The 6 individual republics wanted full independence. The republics were having thoughts of Yugoslavia or 6 countries. All 6 republics voted for a leader, that leader would choose independence or Yugoslavia's Federation. The main political party of Yugoslavia was the League of Communists it had 8 members, the 6 republics and 2 Autonomous Regions of Serbia. Vojvodina and Kosovo. In 1986 the Serbian branch elected Slobodan Milosevic as the leader. Milosevic wanted a United Yugoslavia while mostly the rest wanted independence. After years of war known as the Yugoslav Wars. The Yugoslav Wars ended in 1992 when Yugoslavia had gotten a new Constitution which makes the Yugoslav Federation simply being Serbia and Montenegro instead of all 6 republics. In 2004 Yugoslavia changed to The State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. 2 years later in 2006 Serbia- Montenegro split to Serbia and Montenegro. Now even after Yugoslavia's collapsed, it is still unknown about a solution for Kosovo, but let's see if it will be a violent event or a peaceful event. Let's hope that the Kosovo problem will have a peaceful solution very soon.
