With the recent Olympics starting in Rio De Janeiro, we're here to answer a question. Where and why did the Olympics start? Well the modern day Olympic Games had been inspired by the Ancient Olympic Games in Greece. Of course no one did the Olympic Games as big as today but the Olympic Games weren't forgotten. Years after Greece successfully gained independence from the Ottoman Empire, Greece revived the games, of course the games were international. The games were simply in the summer and in winter for both seasons their would be games and summer events get summer games like volleyball, races, and swimming and the winter event got winter games like Ice skating and hockey. But during World War I it had to be put down because it's a World War. And the Olympics had to be put down again in 1939 because World War II. After Japan signed a new Constitution in 1945. The Olympic Games were brought back. The Olympics were criticized. Why? Because boycotting. Between the beginning and the end of the Cold War the U.S and the Soviet Union boycotted many Olympics in their respective countries like the U.S and Capitalist nations boycott Olympics in Russia and the Soviet Union and Communist nations do the same thing in the continental United States. Also many countries that compete in the Olympics do get criticism for cheating, and boycotting games for stupid reasons. Also countries get more criticism for attacking other nations (Not like war attack) or the Olympic Games themselves for the slightest mistake almost nobody notices. An example is China. In the 2016 Rio Olympics China attacked Australia because an Australian swimmer called a Chinese swimmer a cheat and then China called Australia's media evil and Great Britain's rat infested offshore prison. And China even attacked the Olympic Games themselves for getting the Chinese flag wrong. What was wrong with the Chinese Flag? The 4 gold stars that surrounded the large 5th star were hoisted in the wrong position, the ironic thing is the Chinese Olympic Committee aproved the knock off Chinese flag and what is also ironic that the knock off Chinese flag was made in China. Currently if you want to join the Olympics well I don't how to join but Google it yourself if your 14 or older you can compete in the Olympics. The Olympics also do get more controversy. Why? Because Corruption. In the events before the Rio Olympics, the rivers in Rio De Janeiro are extremely polluted and the rivers are going to be used for the games. Also the Brazilian government left 10,000+ people homeless for space in the Rio Olympics. So enjoy Olympics as much as you want. Or criticize it as much as you want.
