Moonlight

He was just staring at the girl like she was the moon. Compared to the striking, blinding sun, she was calm and gentle. She wasn't that hard to look at.

But there's something that he couldn't explain when he was staring at her. He couldn't explain that feeling when she looks back and he immediately looks at another direction. He couldn't explain that fleeting moment when he saw her smile and heard her laugh. He couldn't describe her beauty because words seemed to run out inside of his head.

He never knew what were those feelings.

He closed his eyes and heaved a sigh. He jolted to the right when a soft hand suddenly touched his shoulder.

"Hey, you all right?" Danica asked. He was out of words to say. It seemed like his tongue backed out even before he made a move. "You look paler than ever. Jusko, ang puti mo na nga, Al!"

She touched his neck and forehead. "Wala ka namang sakit, a. Dali na, kwento na. Sino ba 'yan at aawayin natin!"

He avoided her gaze. He avoided her physical contact. Because he's worried that he might be smashed once the moon striked. Danica meant no harm, but to him, it was as if she was giving out free electricity.

"Wala lang," he finally had the courage to say. "Bumalik ka na nga do'n sa upuan mo. Mamaya pagalitan pa tayo na naman kasi ang kulit natin."

"What are we, grade school children? Jusko naman, college na tayo! We are free to do whatever we want!"

"Kahit na. Tss,"  he pushed her but regretted it afterwards because he felt the surge of electricity again. He felt numb afterwards. "W-Wag mo na 'kong gambalain!"

"E nakatitig ka lang naman sa kawalan, e! Or sa 'kin!"  She laughed heartily. Their classmates were already looking suspiciously. Their professor was still atbhis office, looking for their papers.

If only he had a voice recorder and taped her laugh, it'd become his ringtone right away. He looked away when she said those words.

"Asa! Tulala lang ako, kaya 'wag kang assuming na ikaw tinitingnan ko."

"Ayieee." She nudged his stomach. "Aminin mo na kasi, bes. Crush mo 'ko."

If only it was that easy... he thought.

But then he thought, was it mere crush that he was feeling? Because the term seemed shallow. He was feeling much deeper than that. Something higher than the clouds, wanting to reach the moon. Yes, he wanted to reach the moon too. He grew impatient of all the stares and longing for her. He wanted to reach the moon and finally tell her about his feelings.

But as of now, he can't. She was just inches away from him, yet she feels like lightyears away.

Hr needs to be contented of the moonlight she's been giving.
