To love another person is to see the face of god – Les Misérables.
Jayde was at home on her iPad updating her blog. She knew that Amanda was going to read it, but she didn't care. She had given her permission to anyway. When she logged on, she noticed that she had a new follower, and it made her laugh to see it was her. Welcome to Tumblr, she had texted. At this moment, she had reblogged the usual pictures of dogs that she thought. It was midnight and she had a busy day ahead, but here she was.
She scrolled over the bottom of the screen and tapped on the icon to write another blog entry: It's midnight and I'm tired as shit but I can't sleep. I blame the numerous amounts of caffeine I had earlier (good lord numerous is a fucking hard word to spell). I keep thinking of shit and my brain is keeping me awake. I have school, work and Rafael tomorrow. I'm going to need all the caffeine I can get. I never understood why people drink so much coffee but now I understand completely. Right now I'm contemplating just putting on some Macklemore and cleaning my apartment but I'm too lazy. I got invited for drinks with Sonshine and Fin and I went for a couple rounds. They are seriously the two coolest guys I've met besides Johnny, Rafael, Steven, Joe, Tim, Alice and Keith. #forreal I texted Johnny asking how many times a person is allowed to use the word fuck in a day before it becomes obsessive. He just laughed at me. I seriously need to go to sleep, good fucking lord.
The next day, Amanda asked how much sleep she got. "I don't even know. I literally fell asleep like right after I posted that".
She laughed. "Just be thankful you don't have a newborn".
"I'm actually looking forward to that". This made her laugh again. They walked to their respective desks and sat down. The day was slow so Jayde logged back in to Tumblr and saw that Amanda had left her a message: Go to sleep. This made her laugh and she covered her mouth as she looked at her friend.Since it wasn't busy, she wrote a new entry: I seriously need some more caffeine. I thought of going to Starbucks to get some for myself and Rafael but who knows how much that guy has already had. For real. Current status: Amanda's looking at me wondering if I'm working or updating this thing haha, Sonshine is at the break station and Fin is on his laptop. I better log out before our lieutenant comes over. Hasta entonces...
It was at the moment that she got a text from Rafael asking for coffee. Good lord, she thought laughing to herself. Of course. I was wondering when you were going to ask. I'll be there soon. She grabbed her stuff before heading out. She stopped at Starbucks and got their usuals. She arrived at his office and greeted Carmen, his assistant before heading in. He saw her come in and he smiled as he grabbed his cup. "You are a life saver. One of these days I'm going to pay you back".
"Hey, don't worry about it".
"That's what you always say". They both sat down and started working. At the end of the day they walked out together. She had her phone on with her Spotify playlist open. Rafael came over and asked her what she was listening to. "Alanis Morissette. I have a whole playlist of songs".
He seemed interested in this and he asked what songs she was listening to. "It's a ton. I could type them up and email them to you. It's more than angry girl rock".
"Sure. I'm always interested in new music".That night she typed up her playlist then emailed it to Rafael. An hour later he replied back: Good music, although I only knew some of the songs. Must mean I'm getting old. Gloria Estefan is always a good choice. Have you listened to Hamilton? I think you would like it. I'll see you tomorrow – Rafael.
Jayde read the email reply and smiled as she replied back: I've heard of Hamilton but I have not listened to the soundtrack. I know it's the newest thing on broadway. Gloria Estefan is definitely a good choice. I've been a fan of hers since about 1991. I want to go see Get On Your Feet. It's supposed to be good. Anyway, I hope you're not still at your office. I'll see you tomorrow. Should I bring the usual? – Jayde
You know me too well, Jayde. You must have spies or I'm too obvious. I owe you coffee. What are you doing after work tomorrow? I'll try to find my Hamilton soundtrack for you and bring it with me. If you're still awake, you can reply or I'll see you tomorrow. I'm about to go home and put my feet up. – Rafael.
Jayde was laying in bed on her iPad when she read his latest email asking her for a coffee date. Her jaw dropped and she texted him: I'd love to! I'll see you tomorrow – Jayde. The next day seemed to go by slowly. Finally it was time to clock out and she tried not to seem too excited as she walked out. The squad were following up on leads so she was able to sneak out. She met Rafael at the Starbucks by his office and they sat in the back. "I found this for you", he said as he handed her the soundtrack to Hamilton.
"Oh thank you! I listened to a song this morning on YouTube".
"Did you like it?"
"I did! It's different than rent or Les Miserables".
He smiled. "You should definitely go see it. Have you seen Wicked?"
"I haven't but I really like Idina Menzel and I basically have Popular memorized. I've seen Rent, Cats, the movie version of Les Miserables, the movie version of Into the Woods, Mary Poppins and Phantom of the Opera".
He nodded as he sipped his coffee. "I don't even remember the ones I've seen. Rent is one of them. Jonathan Larson did another musical before he did Rent. Tick...tick...boom!"
"Oh yeah. About his friends, right?"The two of them talked for the next three hours and when they left, Jayde was floating on air. When she got home, she saw an email waiting for her: Thanks for meeting me today. It was definitely needed. We should do it again soon. I hope you like listening to Hamilton. I'll see you later – Rafael.
