𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲'𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘃

Last night, I met up with Callen and we apologized to each other over ice cream. Sometimes we snap at each other, but it's mostly just because we've known each other forever. I mean, everyone has always thought that we're dating because of how close we've always been. The thought of Callen being more than a friend almost feels foreign.

I didn't tell him about the whole situation with Cheryl and Kimberley because I knew we would just argue again. Also, I still have no idea what my opinion of the whole thing is. I don't know what I'm going to say to my parents. Right now I just need to get those DNA tests done. I have to know before I raise my expectations.

"Kinsley, let's go!" a shout pulls me away from my thoughts. I whip my head around and see that our coach is waving me over. "If you want to daydream, then you can do 10 laps around the field. Let's go."

"Yes, Coach Rutherford," I reply, even though I want to roll my eyes.

I take my run around the field ten times, letting my thoughts take over to keep my legs moving. I don't realize how tired my legs are until I'm done and try to walk. I stumble a bit, but I shake it off as I walk up to my coach.

"You've got some strong legs, Kinsley," she notes. "Back to the other girls, please."

I run back over to the other girls on the field, joining them in the warmups. I've been really in my own head recently, but I can't let them get to me. I have to push through, especially in practice.

"You okay?" Spencer asks as I stand behind her in line to practice shots.

"Yeah, just a lot going on."

"Yeah, I get it. A lot goes on up here too," she says as she points to her brain, making me giggle. Spencer is the one I relate to the most and I find myself talking to more than anyone on the team.

"Thanks, at least someone understands."

"You can talk to me whenever, Kinsley," she says with a smile before she takes her turn hitting the ball and scoring on our goalie.

After that, practice went really well. We played a scrimmage game and Coach Rutherford let me be one of the captains. My team ended up winning by 2 goals and I had the chance to feel like a real team with some of the girls.

I walk out of the stadium and hop on my bike. Mum and Dad are obviously at work, so I have to ride my bike back home. I start pedaling, but someone honks their car horn, making me stop and turn around, surprised to see who's in the car.

"If you think I'm letting you ride your bike home, you've gone mad," Kimberley exclaims through her rolled-down window.

"Hey," I chime as I walk up to the car. "What're you doing here?" I ask, seeing Cheryl sitting on the other side in the passenger seat.

"You told us you had practice the other day so we decided to stop by and watch. You were amazing," Cheryl says with a wide smile.

"Thanks, but seriously, you didn't have to come all this way."

"Of course we did! Come on, get in, Cheryl has a doctor's appointment and you can join us for lunch after too."

A doctor's appointment? I think to myself. It's all happening now and fast. I'm unsure how to feel. I didn't think Kimberley would end up throwing me into the mix for the appointment.
