Camille's POV
"Camille!" Spencer shouted at me for the fifth time, trying to get my attention. I couldn't move, my feet were frozen. My mouth couldn't say any other words. My blood boiled and heart beat sped up at the sight of him.
"You alright?" She asked me, seeing me clenching my fists. I nodded and gave her a small smile. She must of thought I was just really focused and left me alone. I unclenched my hands and saw blood and more nail markings.
I took a deep breath and just went to my position. Now, I've got to play the whole game with him distracting me. I mean, maybe it wasn't even him. Maybe it was just someone who looked like him...?
I realized that I was in the middle of running for a pass during my thoughts. I snapped back into the right set of mind and took the ball downfield. I heard cheers and whoops and realized that I have to do this for not just Mum and Mam, but for myself. I need to prove to myself that I still have happiness in my life and part of that is thanks to this team. I've got great teammates, supporters, and amazing football records. This is another escape from my world of depressed shit.
I snapped back out of my thoughts and ran faster. I kicked the ball as hard as I could and it slipped right through the goalies fingertips. Everyone cheered and Fearne came running towards me. She embraced me and smiled widely. I smiled back at her and felt myself even forgetting that I saw him. Maybe he wasn't even there.
"Alright, huddle up!" Fearne called everyone over and...
There he is. The same man that I saw. I tuned out everything Fearne said and squinted to see him better. Damn, I should have put my contacts in. He looks just like him. It can't possibly be him, there's no way. He would never come back and look for me - he hates me.
"Let's go - break!" Fearne shouted and we all went back to our spots. I heard small parts of the play, but I wasn't paying enough attention.
Fearne passed the ball to Spencer, who passed it to Gina, who went for the goal and missed. I was wide open and she completely ignored me. I know that that wasn't the play, but take an opportunity when you can. Jeez.
"What the hell, GG?!" Hannah yelled across the field, seeing that I was open. She threw her hands in the air and came in for the huddle.
"I was open, GG." I said as we went back into the huddle. She shrugged her shoulders and looked at Spencer.
"You're distracted. Get yourself together, then you can be a part of the play." Spencer said, trying to sound like she's helping me.
"This is not an intervention, this is a real game. If we don't win this, we won't go to champs and we'll let Coach down. Next time there's an open spot for a goal, take it." I walked away from the huddle and everyone else mirrored my actions. I rolled my eyes as I made my way back to my position.
We played the same play, still being able to trick the other team. These girls are bigger and taller, making it hard for us to stop them. So, if we use tactics we can get around them and trip up their big feet. This time, Gina passed me the ball and I went for the goal. Yet again, it grazed past the goalies fingertips and hit the net. Everyone cheered and I joined in on the team hug.
"Look, I'm sorry." Spencer mumbled and put her hand on my shoulder. I could see the genuine worry in her eyes.
"I'm a little distracted at the moment, but I'm fine. I'll come to you when I'm not." I smiled at her and just let it go. I need to start learning to just let everything go like that.
