I sat in the Red Lion, waiting for launch. That ceremony had messed me up, and I couldn't help but think that, maybe, I should stay away from Nitro. I'd still protect her, of course.
But I wouldn't want her to do the same. I didn't want the sacrifice to be her, I couldn't live with myself if she did. If it was me, though... if I could make sure that she didn't care about me, it would be me. I sighed aloud.
'Maybe we're better off as friends.'
I remembered.Now, I can't even be her friend.
I slammed my head on the control board, and Red growled at me.
"Not helping, Red.""Keith?"
I whipped around, and Shiro was there. I waved him off, but he kneeled at my seat anyways. I hissed at him.
"What do you want?""What happened back there?"
"Nothing happened."
"Nitro?"
He hinted, his hand on my arm."Her ears hurt. Big deal. It's not like I care, anyways. We're teammates, not a quiznaking married couple. Quiznak, I thought you'd be a little smarter than that, Shiro."
I snapped, rolling my eyes."I thought you liked her."
He fell quiet."I was stupid."
A long silence followed.
"I don't think so, Keith."
And I heard Shiro leave, slumping into my chair even more and hitting my head on the control board again.
"Shut up, Red."
