I felt my heart race.

Her father was Mr. (L/n).

The one that kicked me out of the Garrison.

Then that meant that she was...

No. She couldn't be.

I knew why she had looked so familiar from the G incident.

I had met her before.
"Kogane?"
His voice was firm, accusing.

"Yes, sir?"
I adjusted the collar of my dress shirt, it had been a formal event.

"Stop staring and start talking."
He smiled a bit.

"What do you mean, sir?"
I stuttered out.

"My daughter. Introduce yourself."

"Why?"

"You're the best in your class. Maybe she'll change her mind."

"Yes, sir."

I walked over to the girl, the girl in the nice dress and long hair.

I cleared my throat, and she looked at me suddenly.

"Oh, it's you."
She said bluntly, before I could say anything to introduce myself.

"Excuse me?"

"Keith, right? Keith Kogane?"

"Yeah, yeah that's me."

"My dad won't shut up about you."
She admitted.

"Really?"

"Yeah. He said you were Korean."

"I'm not, though."

She stopped smiling.

"Oh? What are you, then?"

"Japanese?"

"Crow."
She cursed.

"Um, would you have preferred me to be Korean?"
I offered.

"I've been waiting for you all night, and you're not even..."
She grumbled under her breath.

"Wait, you were waiting for me?"

She realized her mistake.
"No, I mean... of course I wasn't. I was merely... just whatever, okay?"

"Hey, look. All your dad said was-"

She cut me off.
"I know he wants me to go to the Garrison, but you have to understand that I'm just not interested, okay?"

"Why not? It's a great school, and-"

"It's just not for me."

"I understand."

She looked up at me.
"But I am interested to know you."

I let out small smile.
"Your name?"

"(Y/n)."

"I'm Keith."
I managed.

"I already know that."
She laughed, and I wanted to slap my forehead.

"Can I get you anything?"
I tried.

"Like a drink?"
She asked.

"Sure."

"Thanks, but..."
Mr. (L/n) was walking towards us. It was late, anyways.

"I'll see you later, Keith."

"I'm sure you will."

Mr. (L/n) gave me a thumbs up behind her back as they walked.

I heard a low wolf whistle behind me. I turned, and it was a group of male cadets. They snickered.

"What a cute little girl. Wonder if she'd still be cute if you took off-"

I felt my fists clench tight.

"Don't talk about her like that."

They stopped laughing.
"And what are you going to do about it, Kogane?"

"Try it again and I'll take you outside and beat you."
I said, slowly.

"I'd like to see you try."
They challenged.

I ignored him, walking away.

"That dress was a bit short, huh? Nice view, though. I'm not really complaining-"

I grabbed him by the neck and threw him outside. I started throwing punches, while the others hit me. I turned to them, one by one, and left them each with a bloody nose or broken jaw.

My chest heaved, blood dripping down my mouth. Someone had gotten me square in the face.

One of the Commanders threw open the door and saw what we'd done. I felt my heart stop.

No, please...

And then I was sitting at Mr. (L/n)'s desk, his eyes boring into mine.
"Kogane."

"Yes, sir?"

"I liked you. I trusted you with my daughter. I thought you were better than this. I know you're better than this."

My fists tightened around the chair's arm rests.

"But you know there are rules here. And beating up a group of students is not acceptable, top of the class or not."

I knew where this was going.

"Pack up your things and go. But before you do, do you have anything left to say for yourself?"
His voice was bitter.

And I could have told him, I could have told him that they were threatening (y/n), could've told him I was defending her honor.

But instead, I shook my head.
"No, sir."

He was disappointed.
"Then you need discipline."

I hung my head as he gestured for me to exit the room.

I'm sorry, (y/n). I won't be seeing you again. I'm sorry.
